TraitBuddy is an addon that tries to help you easily manage and keep track of what crafting research traits all your characters know. Great for those alt'o'holics out there just like myself.

I have expanded many game tooltips so that the information you want to see is right there on the item where you need it. There is also a custom screen if you prefer to see all the research in one place.

In case you are unsure what an alt is, it is a term to describe another/alternative character.

This addon is for Blacksmithing, Clothing, Woodworker and Jewellery traits as the other professions don't have traits you can research.

The latest version of addon library LibAddonMenu is required and will need to be installed separately.

Features

Expanded in-game tooltips:
Bag, loot, mail, buyback, trade, guild store search, guild store listings, links placed in chat, quest rewards, crafting, equipped items, and motifs
See the traits your character and your alts know
See the traits your character and your alts are researching
Automatically knows when your research has finished. You don't need to log on to your alts for it to update.
See the motifs your character and your alts know
Research overview screen
Compact movable window
Allows you to view any of your alts by simply picking them from a dropdown or using an icon bar
The screen you see will be just as if you had logged on to that alt
You choose which alts are included/compared
Customisable icon and text colours
Translated into English, French, German, Japanese and Russian
Supports gamepad mode
Ability to filter motifs, unknown, almost completed etc
List of all crafted sets with details of their bonuses and locations
Support for other addons such as Inventory Grid View and Inventory Insight
Icons in inventory
Plus a lot more...

What do the icons mean?
Green Tick
The selected character has researched that trait.

Orange Tick
At least one or more of your characters has completed researching that trait.
But not the currently selected character.

Blue Hourglass
The selected character is researching that trait.

Orange Hourglass
No characters have completed researching that trait but one or more of your characters have started to learn it.

The colours can be customised from the options.

How to set it up

Log in to each character one by one so TraitBuddy can automatically work its magic
Check out the tooltips on items with traits and motifs

There are 3 ways to open the TraitBuddy window

Bind a key
Use the buttons added to the corners of the crafting stations, skill screen and guild store
Use the chat commands /traitbuddy and /traitbuddyoptions

Use any combination you prefer.
Binding a key is done from the normal ESO options screen

Bring up the ESO Options > Controls > Keybindings and scroll down until you see "TraitBuddy Addon"
Choose a key you would like to use to show and hide the window
Personally I bind the ] key

Info for other Addon makers
Detect when mousing over a trait in TraitBuddy
In your onLoad function

Then add a new function to do your custom stuff

Hi @sir_squallus

I know exactly what that is, you have accidentally installed a 4 year old copy of TraitBuddy copied by Mitsarugi.

To fix it, you will have to completely uninstall TraitBuddy, delete the saved variables.
Then download TraitBuddy again from me, here, the latest version is 7.8

Error ingame

Hy, I'm trying this Addon for the first time now,seems like great work, sadly I get 2 Error messages:

while loading I get:

Usually, it appears as either red, orange, or yellow. Sometimes it appears brown, gray, or even blue. (Also, it can be difficult to distinguish blue from purple and vice-versa.) In the output table, according to your explanation, the color of the learned trait checkmark is "green". However, a checkmark for "Can be researched" appears the same color to me as a learned trait. I cannot distinguish which traits have been learned from those which "Can be researched". So, to make Trait Buddy work for me the "Can be researched" color configuration for Tooltips must be added to the Appearance section for the output table. Or "Can be researched" must have a unique symbol instead of a checkmark. (Of course, it could have both a configurable color and a unique symbol as the "Being researched" hourglasses have.) For what it may be worth: when I configure the output to show only one character which is learning traits, it seems to me that a "red cross" (X) should be shown when the character does not know an item's trait -- although, I suppose that could be over-ridden when the item "Can be researched". Let me explain how it works out of the box, then how you can customise it to work best for you. The ticks will change as you change the character selection at the bottom of the screen. Only track the characters you want to The first thing to do is scroll to the very bottom of the options, to the Character Management section. You will see all your characters listed who have the addon enabled and logged into at least once. Here is an old example screenshot (ignore the red box) To ignore a character in TraitBuddy (don't care what they know) "untick" all boxes for that character. The characters name will then grey out. If you don't want to track blacksmithing, clothing, woodworking, jewellery or motifs on a character then "untick" the relevant boxes for each character. Don't click the X at the end as that clears all TraitBuddy data collected for that character. Change the colours If you don't like the default colours you can change them in the options in the Appearance section. As an example, you could change the "Others know tick colour" from the yellow to a very pale/dull colour so that it's less obvious. The choice is completely up to you. See how that works for you. I am happy to answer more questions if you have them.

Shadowshire Forum posts: 1 File comments: 402 Uploads: 0	Trait Buddy 7.6 - Incorrect Current Known Traits Regardless of the character that I am currently playing, Trait Buddy always displays a checkmark in each and every column/row for every item and its traits to show that all of them are known. However, at the bottom of the column for each item, for the current character (or the currently selected character), the total number of known traits for each item is correct. Also, if a character is currently researching a specific item trait, then the hourglass is shown correctly in the table. What I cannot do is see the trait(s) for which the character has not done any research. This effectively renders Trait Buddy useless with regard to planning ahead as to which research items that I need to create with another character which already knows the trait(s), or that I need to otherwise obtain. Also, the same type of problem exists for the Motifs which each character has learned. If any character knows all chapters of a Motif, then all chapters of the Motif are shown as known if another character knows even just one chapter of it. So Trait Buddy is useless for determining whether a character knows any specific chapter of a Motif when in fact the character has not learned all of them yet. The character is shown either as not knowing any chapter of the Motif, or as knowing all chapters -- i.e., when the character is shown as knowing that Motif at all. If you need to see screenshots that show the Trait Buddy output displayed on the HUD when I use it, then I can make them available. But I cannot post them directly into this comment, and must upload each one to a website such as Imgur for which I can post a hyperlink to see it.
