TraitBuddy  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)
Version: 9.1.0
by: Weolo [More]
TraitBuddy is an addon that tries to help you easily manage and keep track of what crafting research traits all your characters know. Great for those alt'o'holics out there just like myself.

I have expanded many game tooltips so that the information you want to see is right there on the item where you need it. There is also a custom screen if you prefer to see all the research in one place.

In case you are unsure what an alt is, it is a term to describe another/alternative character.

This addon is for Blacksmithing, Clothing, Woodworker and Jewellery traits as the other professions don't have traits you can research.

The latest version of addon library LibAddonMenu is required and will need to be installed separately.

Features
  • Expanded in-game tooltips:
Bag, loot, mail, buyback, trade, guild store search, guild store listings, links placed in chat, quest rewards, crafting, equipped items, and motifs
  • See the traits your character and your alts know
  • See the traits your character and your alts are researching
  • Automatically knows when your research has finished. You don't need to log on to your alts for it to update.
  • See the motifs your character and your alts know
  • Research overview screen
  • Compact movable window
  • Allows you to view any of your alts by simply picking them from a dropdown or using an icon bar
  • The screen you see will be just as if you had logged on to that alt
  • You choose which alts are included/compared
  • Customisable icon and text colours
  • Translated into English, French, German, Japanese and Russian
  • Supports gamepad mode
  • Ability to filter motifs, unknown, almost completed etc
  • List of all crafted sets with details of their bonuses and locations
  • Support for other addons such as Inventory Grid View and Inventory Insight
  • Icons in inventory
  • Plus a lot more...
Check out the attached screenshots for a small sample of what the addon offers.

What do the icons mean?
Green Tick
The selected character has researched that trait.

Orange Tick
At least one or more of your characters has completed researching that trait.
But not the currently selected character.

Blue Hourglass
The selected character is researching that trait.

Orange Hourglass
No characters have completed researching that trait but one or more of your characters have started to learn it.

The colours can be customised from the options.

How to set it up
  • Log in to each character one by one so TraitBuddy can automatically work its magic
  • Check out the tooltips on items with traits and motifs
There are 3 ways to open the TraitBuddy window
  1. Bind a key
  2. Use the buttons added to the corners of the crafting stations, skill screen and guild store
  3. Use the chat commands /traitbuddy and /traitbuddyoptions
Use any combination you prefer.
Binding a key is done from the normal ESO options screen
  • Bring up the ESO Options > Controls > Keybindings and scroll down until you see "TraitBuddy Addon"
  • Choose a key you would like to use to show and hide the window
  • Personally I bind the ] key

Info for other Addon makers
Detect when mousing over a trait in TraitBuddy
In your onLoad function
Lua Code:
  1. CALLBACK_MANAGER:RegisterCallback("TB-OnTraitMouseUp", OnTraitMouseUp)
Then add a new function to do your custom stuff
Lua Code:
  1. local function OnTraitMouseUp(craftingSkillType, researchLineIndex, traitIndex)
  2.     d(zo_strformat("DEBUG: OnTraitMouseUp <<1>> <<2>> <<3>>", tostring(craftingSkillType), tostring(researchLineIndex), tostring(traitIndex)))
  3. end

If you have ideas to improve this addon or have found a bug please either post on the comments section of this addon page or send me a private message.

I hope you like it and find it useful.
See you in game @Weolo on EU Server

Hi Hamfast

Any addon can generate the 'too many anchors' error.
The normal cause for too many anchors error is when you have a large number of addons installed and the game just gets really confused when it's trying to figure out what size a control should be. The anchor error can then show against anyone of your addons but it does not mean it was that addon which caused the issue in the first place.

The too many anchor errors have been around for 5 years which is really unfortunate.

I have made many attempts to ensure that TraitBuddy is not making these worse for people. I have set control sizes and dimensions so no controls calculate their own dimensions, and I have added XML attributes which means the controls should not calculate their anchors.

Howdy,

First let me say I am not sure if this comes from this addon, if not, I am sorry but if you could point me in the correct direction I will be more then happy to report it to the correct party.

After I /reloadui, I get the following error:
Too many anchors processed. Tail of anchor list:

TBMotifsContainerScrollChildTB_MotifEntry536Text->

it closes and goes away and seems to cause no issues that I can see...
I came here because I only have one addon with the initials TB....

Luckily it's now a very rare thing for the research times to be off.
It can happen if your account if your ESO Plus membership changed.
On logging onto a character that characters research times are updated 3 times at 10, 20 and 30 seconds to try and ensure the times are accurate.

Wrong time calculation

There seems to be an error with time calculation. TraitBuddy just showed me that researching Shoes has finished, but it has not. Still 32m left. I've checked it on the crafting table.

Thank you for adding support for a gamepad in the tooltips. It helps immensely with research mgmt on multiple toons.

The error often starts with things similar to "Attempt to access a private function '...' from insecure code"
Workaround for now, after /reloadui or log in open the inventory at least once and close it again. After that, the bank deposit should work.
Thanks. I'll let you know if I have this issue again and if your workaround resolves it.

Okay, I have done some digging, its a bug which ZOS are going to patch.
And later on, I may have to change the way I reference the inventory (to be confirmed)

Version 7.2

I enabled the Moongrave Fane and Stags of Z'en motifs as this data plus achievements are available in-game at the moment

Additionally, any thought on adding recipe tracking for provisioners? Maybe one day we will be lucky enough for the same functionality for TraitBuddy?
There is already great addons for Provisionning https://www.esoui.com/downloads/info...ecipeList.html + https://www.esoui.com/downloads/info...AltFormat.html

The more features you will add to an addon working perfectly will often lead to more bugs and more time consuming for authors
Fair. I just think recipe tracking in tooltips would fit under the scope of this mod and count as useful, specific funtionality. After all, this addon literally tracks every other profession except for provisioning. I've used the addons you've linked before, and like CraftStore, Master Recipe List is waaaaaaay too much "noise" for me.

I guess I will just stick with using Personal Assistant's item marks for recipes in the inventory. Doesn't show me what other characters know, but it's better than using another addon.

Thats where TraitBuddy calls RegisterTopLevel, that is a very simple bit of ESO code and super odd anything should go wrong there.
Is this still happening?
Does this happen if you disable all other addons except TraitBuddy?

Thanks for sharing those links @Anceane
There are already very good addons out there which do a very good job of tracking such things as recipes and provisioning.

I appreciate all the feedback and suggestions. Thank you!

It is important that TraitBuddy continues to be an addon which contains specific, useful, functionality.
I will not take over other peoples addons and incorporate them into TraitBuddy just because those addons developers are no longer maintaining their addon.

TraitBuddy's main focus is on tracking traits which can be researched. Along with a few niceties thrown in over the years like motif tracking and crafted sets.
