Borrower And Lender - NPC Muter  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)
Version: 3.4
by: Wobin, CrazyDutchGuy
This is a simple addon that basically ducks the Voice Over volume temporarily to zero when a few things happen

1. You interact with a banking NPC
2. an NPC chats or yells, and you've heard it before

This addon was brought about by the insanity that the bank lady in Daggerfall causes.

Note: This addon will override your current VO volume settings. Adjust it to your 'normal' value in the B&L addon settings.

You can add and remove npcs from a whitelist that will cause the addon to ignore them. Use this if you like the bards in the inns and the like.

Use /baladd and /balremove then click/mouseover the npc you wish to manage. (note, you may have to fiddle a bit with the list if someone runs in front of your cursor when you're trying to add/remove an npc =P)
v1.1 - Fixed the actual addon name reference.
v2.0 - Added in ducking of passing npcs
v2.1 - Made volume resetting more explicit to the addon's setting rather than current
Added in keybind for Ambient
Made both halves toggleable
v2.2 - Made saved variables character specific, so it doesn't mute quest npcs on alts (this update will reset existing settings)
v2.3 - SV files don't handle \n very well, so stripped them out.
v2.4 - Stripped out \r too.
v3.0 - Redid the storage to be more flexible and less breaky
added in /baladd and /balremove to manage the blacklist
v3.0.1 - Uh, it's actually a whitelist
v3.1 - Added mute/unmute message for keybind, BAL should work in coldharbour now
v3.2 - Increment API version
v3.3 - Fix muting of npcs after visiting bank. Added in option to not mute ambient while in conversation to prevent ambient npcs from muting quest talk
v3.4 - Increment API version

Check the default VO level in the addon settings.
Where are these addon settings found? I see nothing in my escape -> settings list, no /commands?
Under Escape -> Settings -> Borrower And Lender
Yeah, I don't have an entry for Borrower and Lender in my Escape -> Settings list. Not at home at the moment, I'll get home and try to uninstall/reinstall and check again. Then toss up a screenshot if needed.

The anchor event voices can be useful, since they let you know when an event actually starts.

Hm, maybe I'll see about zoning the addon, so it only happens in town... although not even sure if that's possible
No.
At the time was just yours. Uninstalled yours after the issues and installed 'mute npc' instead.
Right. I've adjusted the ducking so that it will always return to the value in the BAL settings. Previously it was attempting to return to the 'previous' setting, which may or may not have been 0 depending on race conditions.

Also, this is not muting specific npcs straight off the bat, it's ducking the volume on the Voice Over slider when one chats and you've already heard it once before. However, if that chat occurs while you're talking to someone else, you won't necessarily hear the person you're talking to.

I'll have to play around with the game a little bit more to see in what situations (quests, etc) where I can block the muting so you don't miss any information.
Was set to 100. Though 95 had the same effects. (and yea i get how it works, it lowers the volume to 0, the other addon im using now lowers the volume to 1, either way i can't hear em)

And the daggerfall spam chat wasn't happening together nearby, as the quest I tested was the one far from the city - harpy quest, talking to any related npc in that quest muted the volume right away, first time talking.
Also tested the falchu werewolf quest much later in the day, same results.

Heck even after I've gone to disable it , it managed to mute it again before the reloadui took affect. It's quick and dangerous with its muting.

Just seems to mute anytime I talk to any npc, or hear one around. Regardless of if i've done the relevant quest or spoken before.

(and never unmuts, which I guess wasn't in the descript on double checking ,but would be nice functionality.)

due to this I guess ill use mute npc instead.

Probably pretty tricky to code.

So maybe just a simpler mod that simply mutes when talking to the banker (and preferably only the rather annoying ones like daggerfalls), and when clicking any anvil/woodworking station (or whatever else is nearby annoying npc loops).
Then provide a fast slash command to unmute (to previously set volume). (EG: /bal - to toggle voice back on).

(and im ebonheart, and played thur most of the content pretty thoroughly, and yea really only daggerfall is the annoying city with npc loops, the ebonheart cities don't have any of that really. Their downfall is more so there layouts - the bank tends to be miles from the blacksmith station unlike daggerfalls nice setup.)

Have you released either of the suggested features, one was to make it a keybind toggle (for me, a keybind to activate if this mod should run would be great, so if I forget to toggle it back off it isn't muting all voice over all the time) and the other was a toggle for whether it affected ambient NPC's or not.

I'm guessing not yet for either.
Not yet indeed. Maintenance sort of surprised me last night.

I was looking to have a flat toggle for both sides of the addon in the settings, I'll look into a keybind, haven't done that sort of thing yet.

I'm somewhat unsure as to how flexible I should make the ambient npc ignoring. To some degree, I can offer a list of who you've heard and what they said, and how many times you've heard it said (or had the addon block it being said), but the interface to allow specific ignoring or whitelisting might be just too complicated for the whole concept.

As an aside, if you open up the SavedVariables for the addon, you'll see the counts. It's amazing how many times you actually do hear a thing....
