TraitBuddy is an addon that tries to help you easily manage and keep track of what crafting research traits all your characters know. Great for those alt'o'holics out there just like myself.

I have expanded many game tooltips so that the information you want to see is right there on the item where you need it. There is also a custom screen if you prefer to see all the research in one place.

In case you are unsure what an alt is, it is a term to describe another/alternative character.

This addon is for Blacksmithing, Clothing, Woodworker and Jewellery traits as the other professions don't have traits you can research.

The latest version of addon library LibAddonMenu is required and will need to be installed separately.

Features

Expanded in-game tooltips:
Bag, loot, mail, buyback, trade, guild store search, guild store listings, links placed in chat, quest rewards, crafting, equipped items, and motifs
See the traits your character and your alts know
See the traits your character and your alts are researching
Automatically knows when your research has finished. You don't need to log on to your alts for it to update.
See the motifs your character and your alts know
Research overview screen
Compact movable window
Allows you to view any of your alts by simply picking them from a dropdown or using an icon bar
The screen you see will be just as if you had logged on to that alt
You choose which alts are included/compared
Customisable icon and text colours
Translated into English, French, German, Japanese and Russian
Supports gamepad mode
Ability to filter motifs, unknown, almost completed etc
List of all crafted sets with details of their bonuses and locations
Support for other addons such as Inventory Grid View and Inventory Insight
Icons in inventory
Plus a lot more...

What do the icons mean?
Green Tick
The selected character has researched that trait.

Orange Tick
At least one or more of your characters has completed researching that trait.
But not the currently selected character.

Blue Hourglass
The selected character is researching that trait.

Orange Hourglass
No characters have completed researching that trait but one or more of your characters have started to learn it.

The colours can be customised from the options.

How to set it up

Log in to each character one by one so TraitBuddy can automatically work its magic
Check out the tooltips on items with traits and motifs

There are 3 ways to open the TraitBuddy window

Bind a key
Use the buttons added to the corners of the crafting stations, skill screen and guild store
Use the chat commands /traitbuddy and /traitbuddyoptions

Use any combination you prefer.
Binding a key is done from the normal ESO options screen

Bring up the ESO Options > Controls > Keybindings and scroll down until you see "TraitBuddy Addon"
Choose a key you would like to use to show and hide the window
Personally I bind the ] key

Info for other Addon makers
Detect when mousing over a trait in TraitBuddy
In your onLoad function

Lua Code:

Then add a new function to do your custom stuff

If you hadn't shared that picture of it showing woodworking items at the Jewellers station I would never have believed it thank you It does give me a few more ideas what I can do to stop it erroring and if I am lucky fix the issues too I will take a look when I get a moment

This image is part of a screenshot from the jewelry station in Alinor. The Ring of Flanking is showing the icon for 'you already know this item's trait', but Sithis' Necklace isn't showing any icon, as if it didn't have a trait, known or unknown, but the popup clearly shows it to be Arcane, and from the reference at the bottom, it should be showing the same 'known trait' icon as the ring does.

TraitBuddy has never shown the traits all on one screen.
You might be describing someone elses addon by mistake

I think the icon is not showing because all your characters know that trait on the necklace.
The inventory icons are not designed to show you that the item has a trait on it, but more to help you quickly see if you or a chosen alt could research the trait.

I had this error too so not sure why but the jewelry kept appearing at every station I visited until I relogged. The issue occurred when I tried to deconstruct jewelry and gave me the Trait Buddy error. Just wanted to follow up that it happened to me too.

I am testing a more robust bit of my code to stop the error. But the bit I am improving won't be the cause of the problem. But better code never hurts.
I need to do more investigations with the jewellery station but I cant even use it without Summerset chapter. And as I don't play ESO atm thats proving hard.
I am looking into ways I can get access to Summerset so I can do more indepth investigations.

I might even release the small improvement anyways and then continue my investigations

Hi Gallaigh

Those errors tend to be when controls are set to figure out their own sizes (width and height) but in this case that control is just using a standard ESO control template so it shouldn't be doing that.

There might still be some tweaks I can make to cut down on any chances of it doing that, I will try.

Oh and sometimes errors like this start popping up is someone uses a large number of addons.

Weolo Forum posts: 79 File comments: 563 Uploads: 4	Version 6.2 So I brought Sumerset Chapter just to investigate the reported issues but I have not been able to replicate it But I have made some of the corresponding trait checking code more robust in version 6.2 which should at the very least stop TraitBuddy erroring. I will try to do more investigations later. I have been seeing a few more instances of traits finishing being researched but not updating in TraitBuddy so I will be adding more logic in shortly on top of what I have already added to try and stop that happening. Weolo Forum posts: 79 File comments: 563 Uploads: 4	Version 6.2.1 I just uploaded version 6.2.1 It will be available to download shortly I have changed the way the trait information is detected in the inventories, this includes places like the bank and crafting stations. This information is now detected in the same way as the TraitBuddy tooltips. Essentially making it the same code which should improve its accuracy. I also added more checks to reduce errors. Hopefully 2 things will happen now, it will be correctly detecting traits on items in places like crafting stations and in the rare cases where it doesn't then TraitBuddy won't error. I still have improvements to add when traits complete researching. I need to find the time to do this.
