TrueExploration

Until now you've had some magical atlas with a map for every zone, dungeon and even the daedric planes. Not anymore! With this addon, you have to "draw" your own maps.
Each map will start as an empty piece of paper, but as you travel and explore tamriel, your character will draw everything he/she sees.

This Addon is usefull for exploration fans and completionists, who don't want the exact locations revealed as in Destinations.

This addon is compatible with AUI's minimap and Votan's minimap.

Chat commands (should be used while the world map is opened):
/tedebug 1 activates debug mode
/tedebug 0 deactivates debug mode
While in debug mode, you can "draw" the map with your mouse. left mouse button to discover an area, right button to "forget" it again.

/discover completely discovers the currently displayed map.
/undiscover removed the previously set discovered flag.
/clearmap completely clears the saved data for currently displayed map.

Additionally the view radius and the opaqueness of the undiscovered texture can be set in the addon's menu.
ESC -> Settings -> Addon Settings -> TrueExploration

If you enjoy slow and immersive gameplay, try SlowDialogs.

While I won't use this addon myself, I must say that it's a really cool idea. Can't belive nobody thought of this before!

Cool addon. Ran around with it a while today, in dungeons it feels like it needs to widen the zone searched as you pass through. When you enter a room that's really not too big and down the center it looks like a just a single path even though you ran through a small room.

Open world the path width feels right.

After a while, the game crashed to desktop. When I came back all the exploration I had was reset to complete blank map.

Yeah, just entered a dungeon the first time with the addon.
The ground had the same texture as the undiscovered areas and with the small radius i couldn't see the walls.
It looked like nothing changed during exploration. >>

I'm currently trying to fix this.

More or less a game bug. Addons can only "register" data to be saved, the actual saving process is handled by the game (to prevent cheating addons). The data is saved during /reloadui or when you logout/quit the game. When the game crashes however, the data isn't saved.
Unfortunately I can't change that.

Ah! Good to know on the saving of data. Maybe have a reminder of some sort (time-based?) to reloadui.

Also noticed in the dungeon when you hit the map button it pops up fast showing the actual dungeon map then the unexplored pops up covering it. It's not a fluid motion from hitting the map button to seeing just the unexplored map.

I like this idea a lot.

As for the saving data, if you don't already, you might want an option to remind people in the chat window every x minutes that they should reloadui or after adding x amount of map reveal. I'm not sure how the data is handled yet since I just found this mod, so I can't offer a more detailed idea on the trigger.

Seems a little hit or miss if dungeons or city maps have the blank effect. Cities and the dungeons I went into were completely revealed without exploration, yet I see from the comments that the revealing seems to be too narrow in some other dungeons.

I would also recommend changing the debug "keys". It is currently setup as left click/right click. Right click results in erasing as intended but it ends with an awkward "zoom out" of the map - to Tamriel Map as an example. And left-click can result in a "zoom in" if you release over a city map area.

Can't wait for this to mature some. This is a fantastic add-on.

Hm, weird. Its exactly the opposite for me. When I open the map in a dungeon, everything is undiscovered while the map fades in. Then after the short fade in animation, the discovered parts appear.
Can you tell me in which dungeon this happened to you?

Great work

Nicely done! I have been enjoying using this add-on.

The only thing I wish could be changed is, is there some way that we can increase the radius of when things are drawn automatically in the map? Sometimes it feels like it draws much shorter than the range of vision...

Let me know if I am missing something though.

Great work!

Thank you for this nice addon.
It's really a shame that the game isn't like that by default, and you're repairing that.

I'd like to report something too:
When we open or close the map, we can see it without the "fog" during the fading animation.
That's something minor, but if you could do something, it would be greater than it already is !

Maybe add a delay hiding your overlay? Or whatever is occurring there that briefly flashes the full map.

When opening/closing the map, there is a short fade in/out animation.
Unfortunately this animation sets not only the transparency of the map, but also of the fog. So for a short duration one can see what is underneath the fog.
Maybe I can fix this error by changing the animation.
