Rainbow Reticle (updated)  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)
Version: 1.0.7
by: mctaylor, Garkin, Mitazaki
Introduction

This is a up to date replacement version for Exterminatus Rainbow Reticle by Mitazaki, as Mitazaki is no longer maintaining it.

This add-on colors the reticle (cross-hairs) based on what it is pointing at, including hostile targets change it to red for example.

It also can optionally color the reticle when pointing at guild mates, friends (from friends list), and group members. Additionally it can optionally display the level of the target, as well as optionally display the target's health current / maximum values and/or as a percentage.

It also ignores trivial "critters" that are not hostile and only level 1, so as to keep from being distracting.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current version:

1.0.7 released 2015-06-27 (Monday 27 June 2015)
  • Update for Update 6 ("Tamerial Unlimited") and API version change.
  • Update LibAddonMenu to 2.0 r18 used for add-on settings menus
  • Code updates due to Reticle's StealthIcon changes
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Previous versions:

1.0.6 released 2014-11-03 (Monday 3 November 2014)
  • Update for Update 5 ("Veteran City of Ash") and API version change.
  • Update LibAddonMenu to 2.0 r16 used for add-on settings menus

1.0.5 released 2014-09-17 (Wednesday 17 September 2014)
  • Update for Update 4 ("Upper Craglorn") and API version change.
  • Improve the resetting of the Stealth "eye" reticle color being incorrectly "stuck" at the previous non-default color (most commonly hostile or group) and associated "stealth text" ("Hidden", "Detected").
  • There may be a small issue with the stealth text visibility, having to do with how long it is visible for, but should be a minor annoyance with the text being shown slightly too frequently or slightly too long.

1.0.4 released 2014-08-10 (Sunday 10 August 2014)

This is a bug fix which fixes the error message when hiding (crouching).

See the Change Log for details on previous versions.

Some history

Rainbow Reticle was created by Mitazaki, but he has stopped playing the game, so mctaylor with Mitazaki's written permission took over maintenance, and Garkin stepped in with an update for Craglorn which I am grateful for.

Rainbow Reticle includes LibAddonMenu 2.0 r16 by Seerah, and LibStub 1.0 r2 by Seerah, et all with permission.

It appears as though the "red" for enemies is no longer working in 1.2.3. I'll try to quadruple check it's not another add-on causing the issue. But it doesn't appear to be.

I have a hacked version of the original mod myself that I share with some guildies.

For RP purposes, I added display of "Guild Notes" (falling back to Friend Notes if a guild note isn't found) below the reticle. A lot of us are in one of the "public collectives" - RP guilds that anyone can join, that simply help us find other roleplayers, given the lack of an RP server. And we use the guild note field to display some pertinent info we'd want others to see. It's the only editable field that's shared with other players.

I also colorized PC's to a light aqua, because I still find it useful to differentiate them from NPC's when in towns.

These may be nice optional features to add; I never released my hacks because I was really only -adding- to the original author's work. And due to some of the funkiness introduced by the last major patch, I ended up removing the configuration tweaks to keep things simple.

I also noticed that (at least the original) reticle mod started bugging out (post last patch) when you went into stealth - after you got either the HIDDEN or DETECTED message on screen, it wouldn't go away after leaving stealth.

This changes the bahviour of the mod for me. It only colours over enemy mobs (not players or NPCs) and always displays mob names regardless of setting.

That shouldn't be a problem with the current version. I had noticed it in the 0.9a/b versions as well, but I think I fix it unless I reverted something by mistake. If it is a problem with the current version, please let me know.

Thank you, I probably broke something, and didn't notice during the disabling of guilds on Monday after the updated version was released. I should be able to fix it by Wednesday evening (Eastern Daytime Time, EDT in NA) as it's after midnight for me currently.

On Role-Playing oriented options

I hadn't seen Guild Notes used much, but it makes sense, so I am will consider the idea of adding the option in the (near) future.

How do you handle the note lengths, such as multiple lines and possibly long-ish text?

I also colorized PC's to a light aqua, because I still find it useful to differentiate them from NPC's when in towns.
Okay, I certainly understand for "Role-Playing" oriented players how that would be useful. I will plan on adding such an option in the near future as well.

Bugs should be fixed in Wednesday's update

So I think I've fixed all the reported bugs at least.

I also made some decent start on working towards a bunch of the requested features. But it will still be a while before they will be ready. I might even test some of them first.

Please feel free to report bugs, either here or using ESOUI's portal feature: Bug report and feel free to request new features via Features Request.

They helps make it easier to stay organized and not lose requests and reports, so don't feel guilty about using them. Also if a bug or an annoyance affects you, or you have a good idea then it probably affects others as well, and good ideas tend to be useful in general.

Question on coloring of player characters

One question that occurred to me while make changes, how should such an option treat enemy PC's, such as in PvP / AvA (Cyrodiil and Trials) or should be only be for friendly (allied) players?

since the 1.3.3 Update

Since the 1.3.3 update, I've found that the Reticle goes into ui error report mode if I crouch then target a mob. If I clear it pops right back up, until I stand up again.

I realize saying it doesn't work in itself isn't helpful, I was just to tired last night to log back in an script the error.

user:/AddOns/RainbowRecticle/RainbowRecticle.lua:245: function expected instead of nil
stack traceback:
user:/AddOns/RainbowRecticle/RainbowRecticle.lua:245: in function 'OnTargetHasChanged'

For me it happens when crouched, and as I moved the cursor off the target.
