TraitBuddy is an addon that tries to help you easily manage and keep track of what crafting research traits all your characters know. Great for those alt'o'holics out there just like myself.

I have expanded many game tooltips so that the information you want to see is right there on the item where you need it. There is also a custom screen if you prefer to see all the research in one place.

In case you are unsure what an alt is, it is a term to describe another/alternative character.

This addon is for Blacksmithing, Clothing, Woodworker and Jewellery traits as the other professions don't have traits you can research.

The latest version of addon library LibAddonMenu is required and will need to be installed separately.

Features

Expanded in-game tooltips:
Bag, loot, mail, buyback, trade, guild store search, guild store listings, links placed in chat, quest rewards, crafting, equipped items, and motifs
See the traits your character and your alts know
See the traits your character and your alts are researching
Automatically knows when your research has finished. You don't need to log on to your alts for it to update.
See the motifs your character and your alts know
Research overview screen
Compact movable window
Allows you to view any of your alts by simply picking them from a dropdown or using an icon bar
The screen you see will be just as if you had logged on to that alt
You choose which alts are included/compared
Customisable icon and text colours
Translated into English, French, German, Japanese and Russian
Supports gamepad mode
Ability to filter motifs, unknown, almost completed etc
List of all crafted sets with details of their bonuses and locations
Support for other addons such as Inventory Grid View and Inventory Insight
Icons in inventory
Plus a lot more...

What do the icons mean?
Green Tick
The selected character has researched that trait.

Orange Tick
At least one or more of your characters has completed researching that trait.
But not the currently selected character.

Blue Hourglass
The selected character is researching that trait.

Orange Hourglass
No characters have completed researching that trait but one or more of your characters have started to learn it.

The colours can be customised from the options.

How to set it up

Log in to each character one by one so TraitBuddy can automatically work its magic
Check out the tooltips on items with traits and motifs

There are 3 ways to open the TraitBuddy window

Bind a key
Use the buttons added to the corners of the crafting stations, skill screen and guild store
Use the chat commands /traitbuddy and /traitbuddyoptions

Use any combination you prefer.
Binding a key is done from the normal ESO options screen

Bring up the ESO Options > Controls > Keybindings and scroll down until you see "TraitBuddy Addon"
Choose a key you would like to use to show and hide the window
Personally I bind the ] key

Info for other Addon makers
Detect when mousing over a trait in TraitBuddy
In your onLoad function

Lua Code:

Then add a new function to do your custom stuff

Thats exactly how I designed the mod to be, simple and useful.
Its always a balancing act to make sure I don't add something which is not appropriate.

Weolo Forum posts: 79 File comments: 563 Uploads: 4	Version 4.8 I just uploaded version 4.8 This version adds features like ResearchAssistant used to, if you or an alt could research a trait on an item or learn a motif then you will see a icon in the inventory. The icons take the character management part of TraitBuddy in to account. Out of the box the icon is green if the current character could learn the trait/motif. And then yellow if an alt could learn it. I have added the icon to both bag and bank. I have also added lot of new options for size, colours, and lets you turn them off. Check out the "Inventory Icon" section under the TraitBuddy options. It works for those who use Inventory Grid View addon but you might want to make the icon smaller in the options. Plus other stuff Check it out, hope you like it

But I do want to see TriatBuddy info about other characters in the toolips. If you do accidently click the X to delete the data it will reset the next time you log that character on. If that happens then log that character in, then change the 4 option tick boxes.

Yes, I've done that but after I switch characters lets say like 2-3 times in a row those changes will undo

EDIT: oh I'm sorry I thought the X meant to delete the character from trait buddy info. Will do with just the checks and see how it goes

I have like 3 characters but only 1 toon does the trait research. So every time I check my trait list it shows for all my characters which bother me a lot. Hi Javz I am glad you like my addon and thanks for taking the time to tell me

I think I know what you can do to get this working just how you want it but before that could you answer a couple of questions.

When you say "every time I check my trait list it shows for all my characters" could you give me more details on where you are looking. The tooltips, the TraitBuddy screen etc?

I meant this screen. As you can see it shows all the characters I log in with even though I already went to Traitbuddy settings and took them off individually. this happens when let's say I log in with toon call Javz and take Javz off traitbuddy then I switch toon and log in with Potter and I only want Potter to show in the screen shown or the item stat description. Then I login with Javz again and switch back to Potter. that's when Javz will show in both item description and Traitbuddy settings. even though I already took Javz off in the settings. I'm not really good at explaining sorry

When you say "every time I check my trait list it shows for all my characters" could you give me more details on where you are looking. The tooltips, the TraitBuddy screen etc?

I have like 3 characters but only 1 toon does the trait research. So every time I check my trait list it shows for all my characters which bother me a lot. I don't know if bothers other people but it does bother me a lot. I know if I go to settings and go to the bottom I can click the X and take those characters I don't want off. But something I've found is that if I do that then switch toon and go back to the toon I started with then it will show that toon again. I'm sorry if I'm not explaining it well but what I mean its if you could make settings on deciding which toons to show or not. like, make a black list for toons not to show. If it already has one then it's not working because I try all the settings related to it. Once again its one of my favorites AddOns that I use a lot. Thanks for your AddOn

Weolo Forum posts: 79 File comments: 563 Uploads: 4	Version 4.7 I just uploaded version 4.7 it will be available to download shortly For those of you who wanted an item tracking system this is now possible if you have also installed Inventory Insight addon There is a new bit at the bottom of the TraitBuddy tooltips so you can see where you have an item with that trait on it. On another character, in your bank or in any guild bank. Warning: There can be slight delays if you quickly look at multiple items Because of this it is turned off by default, you can turn it on and off at anytime in the TraitBuddy options I have tried my best to improve the speed that it works but I don't see anything else I can do to improve it. Its a thing which can happen as those 2 icons are not from the game.
Exit the game
Delete (or rename) the ShaderCache.cooked file from
D:\Users\<USER>\Documents\Elder Scrolls Online\live folder
Start the game up again and it will re-build the file

Th2 medium and light armour images should now show up
