ESO Graphics Extender  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)
Version: 2.0.1
by: Jizargo [More]
Disclaimer: I will do updates on this site first since I have direct access to it. So if this gets approved check ESOUI for updates in the future or my eso forums post.

(I highly recommend using Votan's Darker Nights addon. It will automatically adjust gamma levels according to the time of day)
Download Addon here:

In Settings > Addons > Votan Darker Nights > set New Moon to 80, Full Moon to 90.

ESO Graphics Extender 2.0.1

Finally the most massive ESO graphical overhaul has been released. With the newly released shader pack for Reshade 3.0.7 there are some really neat effects you can replicate in ESO. After weeks of tweaking and consulting with shader programmers I've finally finished this master piece. This is more than just a Reshade preset, it also contains slightly modified shaders for ESO and increases the view distance drastically, so there is no longer a blue tinted fog everywhere.
This preset is based off Ultra Real Lighting and Colors, adjustments were made mathematically with a bit of eyeballing on the side. There are several differences between this overhaul and any other preset. The aim of this project was to replicate visual enhancement mods seen in Skyrim/Oblivion/Morrowind with ENBs and such. SweetFX previously did not have the tools to do the things we can achieve now in ESO.

How to Install

(As requested, I've provided a video tutorial here)
  • Copy the Reshade files to C:\Program Files (x86)\Zenimax Online\The Elder Scrolls Online\game\client
  • Extract Hook64 and use Launcher64.exe to start ESO
  • Press RShift + F2 to bring up Reshade GUI, if you have drastic performance problems (5+ fps hit) go to Settings, Usage mode, then click performance mode.
*Note: If reshade disables the preset when the GUI disappears then click Settings and do the following
Input Processing: Block input when cursor is on overlay
Under User Interface check Show Clock or Show FPS (This will keep the GUI active to avoid the bug. Crosire is aware of this issue)

What is all this?

ESO Graphics Extender is a combination of multiple tools and shaders. We use Hook64 to increase the draw distance and remove some excess fog. Reshade is used to render the graphical enhancements, and this specific reshade has been modified to allow depth buffer access at all times. In the public reshade there is a netcode to disable depth buffer access to prevent reshade from being seen as a cheating device. ESO however is aware of reshade and hook64 hence you cannot exploit the game with it anymore nor is it against their rules.

For those of you who are familiar with SweetFX you may have seen other presets. However this reshade version has been developed along side some really neat shaders. We can now achieve things like DOF in ESO which was huge for me. As well as the preset being specifically developed for extended view distance. This is still a WIP so please take screenshots and report any problems that occur. I'm aware of the black texture issue and am looking to fix it if possible.

-Known Bugs-

1) Reshade doesn't render unless GUI is active.
Solution: Shift+F2 then click Settings, then change Input Processing to "Block input when cursor is on overlay". Now under user interface check show Time/FPS.

2) Crash on Startup
Solution: Rename dxgi.dll to d3d11.dll

3) No shaders showing up in reshade menu
Solution: Check d3d11.ini and dxgi.ini if the paths are set correctly for you game and shader folder.

4) DoF doesn't work (or everything is caught in DoF?)
Solution: Full screen breaks DOF, change to Windowed Fullscreen.

So, with newly ReShade version (4.0.2) old dll seems to be not working. Even with 3.0.7 & 3.0.8 (was told that DOF is only working on a version 3.0.8 and older) replasing (not only) dll causes effects not loading at all. Menu can be summoned, but changing presets or checking effects not working all the same.
Paths were also not mine, changing them didn't work either.

I really need an update or a workaround/specification on version here((

False detection due to the nature of the file. It's manually hooks into ESO's executable which looks suspicious to some AVs.

Edit: Yes it's also ZOS safe, you can look through comment section here to find my explanation of how ZOS decided to deal with Hook64 and potential exploits instead of outright banning it.

I wasn't very fond of the LumaSharpen as everything was a bit too sharp and crispy all of the sudden so I disabled that. I also disabled DoF, it looks great and I can understand that people like it but for me it was a bit too aggressive (and I don't know how to tone it down, say like 100 meters in-game).

I also had trouble getting it to work from the start but then I remembered my ESO isn't installed in the standard location in my HDD so I had to tweak it from the GUI - and voila!

Anyways... Here's a screenshot of ESO Graphics Extender compared to original. So here's my sweet spot - the following are disabled from the ReShade: LumaSharpen, LightDoF_Far, LightDof_Near and Lightroom (Lightroom might be ok to keep on but I kinda like more unrealistic look at the moment)

I highly recommend using Votans Darker Nights with this. Here's what it does, comparison between ESO Graphics Extender and ESO Graphics Extender + Votans Darker Nights

You're welcome, I originally released this because I felt like a lot of people would really enjoy modifying the visual aesthetics of the game like Bethesda fans are used to doing.

In your addon settings in game there is a place to adjust the sliders for Votan's addon.

As I elaborated on in my previous comments, you're either talking about two issues, one of which is fixable.

A) "Everything" isn't covered by DoF, but instead what is in the "way" of the DoF effect. Which typically will end up being your UI especially if you look at the sky for example.

B) "Everything" is covered by DoF, and by everything I mean everything 24/7. This is solved by changing your resolution to 1920x1080 or perhaps by manually installing the LightDoF shader. Also if you run your game at medium or low res instead of high this will occur too. Some people have said windowed mode fixes this.

If your issue is A, then there's nothing I can do on my end to solve this. There is a UIAway shader on reshade.me however it's a bit complex and in my experience wont work with transparent UI. That aside the number 1 issue there is the fact everyone has potentially different UI, whether it be scaling or by mods. So my releasing a UIAway that specifically prevents my personal UI from being caught in the DoF wouldn't help much for everyone else. Unless I'm going to specify which scaling you can have, how big your chat box window can be, how large your resolution can be, etc... which just seems absurd to me.

The DoF can be toggled off with the Home Key, if you do this you will still have the in-game DoF which affects far distant objects/textures. My DoF is just used to create the illusion of the DoF getting stronger the further away something is.

EDIT: Just noticed the last entry in the FAQ, but yes, I play on windowed fullscreen and everything is still caught in DoF.
You may need to set your screen resolution to 1920x1080. I'm unsure if this is apart of the lightDoF Shader or was applied by my settings. If you don't mind helping me out here, could you do a manually download and install Reshade to your ESO directory, then replace the dgxi.dll file thing with the one from my preset. Turn the light DoF on and play with the settings to increase it. I need to know if Reshade installing the shader will automatically apply your screen resolution to it, or if the shader it's self has 1920x1080 programmed in by default.

I suppose I could ask around on the reshade website as well. I've been aware of this problem but couldn't figure out where my screen res is located in the shader or settings.
My screen resolution is already at 1920x1080. I tried a manual install and that didn't seem to change anything - the UI (including my addons) are still blurred. I don't think this is tied to screen resolution directly. Do you do anything inside your shaders that detect the game's UI? I found this on the reshade forums, which is part of the default shaders that come with reshade. That would work technically, but every user would have to manually edit the pixel positions according to what addons they're using and where they're located on the screen, which is quite a lot of manual work. Unfortunately I don't think there is an optimal way to fix this issue :/

EDIT: I think we've misunderstood each other. Just to clarify, the DoF works properly on my end. The issue is that when I open my inventory, for example, it gets blurred if the thing in the game behind it is too far away (and this includes any addons that add anything to the screen).

EDIT 2: Also forgot to mention this applies to the sharpen effect as well. Others likely affect the UI as well, but these 2 are the most noticeable ones.
Sorry about late reply I thought I replied to this message, your issue is already known. The problem with that UI addon is that the HUD is transparent and a lot of people use UI mods, or even have their UI scaled differently. You could do it yourself but I personally never got it to work anyways because of the transparency. There was another similar shader that let you select a region to ignore shade effects, however the same problem as I described before occurs, people use dif UI, dif scaling, etc..

1 - automatic : searching the registry for the path.
I found the path to my game in this registry folder :
you may check if it's the same in your's

1- bis : searching the whole computer for eso64.exe
drawback : problem if there is more than one eso64.exe file on the computer for some reason. Also it could be slow

2 - simpler : open a window to ask where the file eso64.exe is
drawback : it's open to user's mistakes or lack of computer knowledge (but those people usually plays on console, or don't install mods anyways)

yes.

that did the trick THANKS !

I extracted the .zip directly in the \client directory.
the unzipping created this structure : \client\Reshade + Preset\dgxi.ini
I moved everything in \client and all is fine now !

thanks for this wonderfull addon.
let me know if you have a link for donation
I wrote a code a few years ago to search for ESO.exe / ESO64.exe before and the method I used made it really slow. However I think Hook64 has a few default locations to check from, if hook64 was launching your ESO then it found the right directory, but reshade could possibly conflict with weird directories.

and yeah I have a donation link setup when you download the file just click the Donation button.

edit: You can turn fog on/off by clicking the settings image in hook64 as well, it may have been disabled for you at first not sure.

I plan on making a separate steam version, off the bat I'm just going to ask whats your ESO directory for steam. I want to confirm this location before updating.

yes.

Make sure all reshade files were extracted to ESO.exe location, and dxgi.dll is in the directory.
