ESO Graphics Extender  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)
Version: 2.0.1
by: Jizargo [More]
Disclaimer: I will do updates on this site first since I have direct access to it. So if this gets approved check ESOUI for updates in the future or my eso forums post.

(I highly recommend using Votan's Darker Nights addon. It will automatically adjust gamma levels according to the time of day)
Download Addon here:

In Settings > Addons > Votan Darker Nights > set New Moon to 80, Full Moon to 90.

ESO Graphics Extender 2.0.1

Finally the most massive ESO graphical overhaul has been released. With the newly released shader pack for Reshade 3.0.7 there are some really neat effects you can replicate in ESO. After weeks of tweaking and consulting with shader programmers I've finally finished this master piece. This is more than just a Reshade preset, it also contains slightly modified shaders for ESO and increases the view distance drastically, so there is no longer a blue tinted fog everywhere.
This preset is based off Ultra Real Lighting and Colors, adjustments were made mathematically with a bit of eyeballing on the side. There are several differences between this overhaul and any other preset. The aim of this project was to replicate visual enhancement mods seen in Skyrim/Oblivion/Morrowind with ENBs and such. SweetFX previously did not have the tools to do the things we can achieve now in ESO.

Important Updates

v2.0
Added qUINT lightroom shader
Updated for Werewolf patch

v1.9
Gamma fix pass 5
DoF adjusted (Home key to toggle)
Updated for Summerset patch

v1.8

Gamma fix pass 4

v1.7b
Updated for Clockwork City patch

v1.6b
HDR balance
Gamma fix pass 3
Support for
Votan's Darker Nights addon

v1.5b
More performance optimizations
Gamma fix pass 2

v1.4b

Performanc optimization
removed AO & DepthHaze.

v1.3b

HDR balance,
Gamma fix pass 1

v1.2b
Fixed depth buffer access(allows DOF w/o flicker)

v1.1b
Fixed HDR balance

How to Install

(As requested, I've provided a video tutorial here)
  • Copy the Reshade files to C:\Program Files (x86)\Zenimax Online\The Elder Scrolls Online\game\client
  • Extract Hook64 and use Launcher64.exe to start ESO
  • Press RShift + F2 to bring up Reshade GUI, if you have drastic performance problems (5+ fps hit) go to Settings, Usage mode, then click performance mode.
*Note: If reshade disables the preset when the GUI disappears then click Settings and do the following
Input Processing: Block input when cursor is on overlay
Under User Interface check Show Clock or Show FPS (This will keep the GUI active to avoid the bug. Crosire is aware of this issue)

What is all this?

ESO Graphics Extender is a combination of multiple tools and shaders. We use Hook64 to increase the draw distance and remove some excess fog. Reshade is used to render the graphical enhancements, and this specific reshade has been modified to allow depth buffer access at all times. In the public reshade there is a netcode to disable depth buffer access to prevent reshade from being seen as a cheating device. ESO however is aware of reshade and hook64 hence you cannot exploit the game with it anymore nor is it against their rules.

For those of you who are familiar with SweetFX you may have seen other presets. However this reshade version has been developed along side some really neat shaders. We can now achieve things like DOF in ESO which was huge for me. As well as the preset being specifically developed for extended view distance. This is still a WIP so please take screenshots and report any problems that occur. I'm aware of the black texture issue and am looking to fix it if possible.

-Known Bugs-

1) Reshade doesn't render unless GUI is active.
Solution: Shift+F2 then click Settings, then change Input Processing to "Block input when cursor is on overlay". Now under user interface check show Time/FPS.

2) Crash on Startup
Solution: Rename dxgi.dll to d3d11.dll

3) No shaders showing up in reshade menu
Solution: Check d3d11.ini and dxgi.ini if the paths are set correctly for you game and shader folder.

4) DoF doesn't work (or everything is caught in DoF?)
Solution: Full screen breaks DOF, change to Windowed Fullscreen.

I plan on making a separate steam version, off the bat I'm just going to ask whats your ESO directory for steam. I want to confirm this location before updating.

So first, is Hook64 actually launching ESO for you? If not then click the settings icon in Hook64, go to ESO tab, and the dropbox next to "Force Login" change to steam. If that doesn't work, manually update Hook64 from their website and let me know if that works for you.

The reshade should be injecting regardless of whether or not hook64 launches ESO. On startup you'll see it hang while loading shaders. Make sure all reshade files were extracted to ESO.exe location, and dxgi.dll is in the directory.

If none of this works, and you've modified your dxgi.ini directory paths to match the steam directory, then you can try manually adding the preset.

1) Download the latest version of Reshade (https://reshade.me/) then click select game
2) Navigate to the location: C:\Program Files (x86)\Zenimax Online\The Elder Scrolls Online\game\client or wherever your ESO64.exe is located
3) Check Direct3D 10+ then allow Reshade to automatically download shaders.
4) Only leave checked the following shaders (or it will take longer to load Reshade up)

AmbientLight (removed temporarily)
Bloom
Clarity
Colourfulness
Curves
DepthHaze (removed as of 1.4b)
HDR
LiftGammaGain
LightDoF
LumaSharpen
MagicBloom
Monochrome

5) Overwrite the "dxgi.dll" file with the one in my Preset. This prevents reshade from disabling depth buffer access which is needed for proper DoF.

7) Press Right Shift + F2 to open up Reshade GUI. Follow the tutorial, at the top it lets you choose a local preset. If you download the Preset alone then you have to place it in
C:\Program Files (x86)\Zenimax Online\The Elder Scrolls Online\game\client or steam location

This comes from the nexus page tutorial. Now if reshade just simply does not inject into ESO, then perhaps you have an anti virus preventing it from doing so. Or maybe you're lacking a dependency needed. Let me know what the deal is after trying all of this.

Are you using steam version, where is the folder location if you don't mind. I can make a separate version for steam it'll be big help.

Also Hook64 was working for me post-summerset patch, I haven't looked into the update but I'll do so now.
Yeah I'm using Steam. For me the folder location is in D:\Steam\steamapps\common\Zenimax Online\The Elder Scrolls Online\game\client. Everything works fine for me now after updating Hook64, and correcting the file paths.

I feel for you, the directions on how to install this was a complete disaster and the author should apologize. These sweetFX guys think everyone understands how to install it. It won't get installed with Minion the right way and shouldn't be included with the install option.

This does make the game look beautiful, can't deny that. The reason I stopped using it, was the HOOK64 isn't a cheat for ESO, but it is for other games. Just use at your own risk.
That person apparently made modifications to his directory that were not listed in the directions. I'm unaware of why Minion would pick up a tool/utility, I can talk to the staff or look into that.

The directions are as simple as I could make them, if you have any suggestions how I could be any clearer then by all means please let me know. Currently the setup tutorial is this

Copy the Reshade files to C:\Program Files (x86)\Zenimax Online\The Elder Scrolls Online\game\client
Extract Hook64 and use Launcher64.exe to start ESO
Press RShift + F2 to bring up Reshade GUI, if you have drastic performance problems (5+ fps hit) go to Settings, Usage mode, then click performance mode.

Like all reshade files (this doesnt use SweetFX) you have to install the dll files to the executable location. I don't see why I would need to apologize to anyone for providing additional information on how to install, and the potential bugs that can be fixed.

In earlier posts I explained how ZOS dealt wiht hook64, they changed the rendering distance of characters / objects and made them separate.

If you're running at 1920x1080 it shouldnt be a problem. Others have said using FullScreen causes this issue for them, try using windowed borderless.

Else you can toggle DoF off now with the Home key.

The files contained here do nothing to any existing files in your ESO directory. If they did cause crashing issues then the first logical step would be to remove the files you added to your ESO.

Most likely you deleted something or moved a file you shouldn't, because there's no evidence of anyone having CTD issues with the current ESO version and hook/reshade version.

Wrong. All of this is wrong.

Just because you couldn't figure it out doesn't mean it's the addons fault. If only ESO was crashing you didn't have to reinstall Windows. That's a big hammer.

What happened was you messed up the dll files and then it wouldn't launch. You didn't, or couldn't, think through the process well enough to do it correctly and didn't have the correct dlls between hook64 and the addon.

Edit - The username checks out though.
