Long post, but I wrote it over literally 4+ hours of in game testing.
Turning map settings to off didn't help. So I tried turning off everything, no help. So I decided to then go back to minimum. I didn't see a reticle at first, but had to click because after the /reloadui it was in the mouse movement mode like when you type in chat. Clicked and the reticle appeared, so last time I went down to just PP and CR may have made a mistake by just seeing it not there and instantly reverting instead of clicking mouse. Mea culpa. So with minimal addons, the problem won't reproduce. Still removing only PP from my full set fixes and adding it forces the repro, but it's probably through some interaction with a third lib or mod. Ok, at this point all I had installed was Circonian's Addon Selector, its dependencies, PP its menu lib dependency and CR. I went through an hour or two of reloading 190+ other addons in small groups at a time. (At least I got to see how much reloadui time gets added as the addons pile up.) The odd one out of 199 causing the issue was one I'd never guess could be. It's Pollox's Daily Quest Tracker, which can open a window with a keybind or slash command. I use it to track which characters have done writs mostly and the timers on daily randoms sometimes, but I also use it for other dailies when I'm doing them for whatever reason from time to time. I did notice that both PDQT and your addon depend on LibAddonMenu-2.0. So next thing was to go back to as few addons as possible. When I drop down to that I started with plus Pollox's DQT my old minimum test (Circonians Addon Selector, Combat Reticle, Perfect Pixel, LibAddonMenu-2.0, LibDialog and LibStub) the conflict doesn't happen; the reticles render normally. Really frustrating to pin down. I remembered that Recount also had issues with its background and noticed that it too uses LibAddonMenu. So I turned on all the addons that had LibAddonMenu as a dependency, and then the problems with Combat Reticle and Recount show. Combat Reticle doesn't use the external LibAddonMenu, but does have a private version. Now the problems show again with just these addons. Disabling/removing PDQT or PP or doing the alt tab workaround fixes the issues still, but they recur next ui load. So next I worked at removing individual addons until I can get the minimum combination of addons using LibAddonMenu that reproduces the issues. Advanced Filters Alpha Gear 2 Awesome Guild Store Combat Reticle Combat Metrics CraftStore Dolgubon's Lazy Writ Crafter FCO Item Saver Foundry Tactical Combat pChat Perfect Pixel Pollox's Daily Quest Tracker Plus the 26 required libs (or libs required by libs like libGPS needing another lib), and for God only knows what reason the LibPrice library. And a handful of other libs, can produce the list if needed, but when I prune all the way down to the ones exactly required the repro stops. When I stop with one or two like LibPrice it repros, but then when I remove it and add it again I have to add others like LibMapPins etc, but when it repros I can whittle back down tho the 26+Price with repo then removing that and adding it back and it stops. I'm out of patience to be that methodical about it to go the last mile. I'm honestly not sure if LibAddonMenu and maybe some traffic with things set thru it gets overloaded, which was my first hunch, or if there's something else these 12 do in common where there's eventually some collision. Most of these add some kind of icon or window or other display element, but not sure why these in particular out of basically 200 work in a way that removing or disabling one the problem vanishes, but adding or removing any of the other 95% of them has no effect. Anyway, I'm happy with my workaround and after blowing a full night of gaming time playing tester, I don't care what the root issue is anymore

@Balmeri Now there is no way to check it yourself. Try to disable all the options in the world map in the PP settings and check.
Judging by the description, this can be only one event that registers changes to the game window. But I intercept the event of direct control which is hidden on the scene of the hud. |

By the way, thanks for the Perfect Pixel addon, it is nice to be able to see so much more on the screen at once in so many places.

Repro Steps for Combat Reticle conflict:
1. Install both Combat Reticle and Perfect Pixel. 2. Go into the addon settings for Combat Reticle and set various reticles to use custom images/shapes/colors/sizes. 3. At this point they should render fine on screen. 4. /reloadui or change characters. 5. None of the reticles should show on the screen now for any of the various types set up in 2. To make them reappear Alt Tab out of game and back in and click on screen and they should appear now, or adjust the scale settings for each reticle set and then set them back to what you wanted. Either should restore the visual of the reticle. For the conflict with Recount just have both installed and the background for the recount window will be offset and the wrong size. Alt Tab out and back and it should be realigned. P.S. The Alt Tab can be during a loading screen for travel or zone change, and it works just as well. A lot of times when I first get on a character I might not care about having the reticle on in town or to do writs, but when I zone out to do something in the world I just Alt Tab then.

wow, a bit too much but thanks for the testing!
Not sure what KL1SK is able to understand here but I'm not sure what to do now?! Could you please write all together into 1 short comment again telling -what is the problem with the crosshair (vanishin in total / shown wrong / ???) -ONLY provide the steps to reproduce this error (1st: Open settings of combat retircle and change avlue of "..:" to "...". Then reloadui. Afterwards do .... so one can focus on this and find a way to reproduce it. This would be a real help, thank you.

30 minutes, no reticles, but... alt tab and back, and reticles. Tested 3 times in a row with /reloadui making them vanish and then alt tab out and back and they're fine. This is a quick and good enough workaround to satisfy me. A little clunky, but I'll take it to try out the improved visuals. Maybe the other person can see if alt tab and back fixes for them as well. Thanks.
Edit: Also, for what it's worth, the Recount misaligned background also recurs with every reloadui or char change, but the alt tab fix corrects it as well. Whatever it is it must be some part of the API that draws things conditionally, since I have Recount set to autohide out of combat.

New information: if you wait long "enough" the reticles sometimes get loaded properly. At first i thought it had to do with getting into and leaving combat, but that doesn't do it. I'm mystified about what the interaction is, but they still disappear for me immediately after any /reloadui or character change. They can, however, just start showing up within about 5 minutes even with the character sitting there while going to grab a drink. I've been trying to reproduce this after a reload, but after 20 min this time still no reticles. Frustrating interaction. Then alt tabbing out and back into game and boom reticles. I was running around sneaking, looting, killing, picking locks before this. So switch characters and as expected no reticles at first. Going to leave this one literally sitting doing nothing but walking around/using shrines but no combat or harvesting for 30 min to see if time alone is enough.

To correct poorly chosen wording, it completely erases any reticle at all (the settings stay fine, but even changing them results in no reticle appearing for me).
Also, in continuing to test out or search for workarounds I did reset my UI scaling, and oddly the shift with Recount still happens when Perfect Pixel is active and goes away when it's not. Combat Reticle works when you apply default settings. Once you choose custom is when things get sketchy, and all the ones I use are custom. With custom settings it seems will work only if you go through and manually twiddle each of the detailed settings. I'm not 100% certain that this works for all settings, but seems to be working so far: scale the image in whatever part of the reticle above 50 on the slider, then scale it back down and it seems to show after that. Do this with the outer overlay/bracket and then that shows but the middle doesn't. Tweak the scale on the other part and then it appears. Now here's the rub. Reloadui, log out, change characters, do anything that reloads and bam everything is gone again. When I apply a theme and then reload my settings from a quick slot all the ones that got changed by the theme then show again. The ones the theme didn't change (commonly friendly target or interaction ones) stay invisible until you tweak them again. My hunch is something in Perfect Pixel calls some initializing thing in reticle on every reloadui, and if this runs after Combat Reticle tried to do its thing it leaves the reticles blank. Right now the workaround is a bit too much for me as I'm an altoholic and having to do this 10+ times every day isn't tenable, even if I set up two quick slots to touch all the settings differently. If I have time I'll try to dig through the lua to see if I can find some call to the initializer. No thank you please! addon has a similar kind of issue where even if you don't choose to have it hide the house map markers it goes through and touches them all so every time it updates I have to comment out the dozen or so lines that try to do this so it doesn't overwrite the icons/pins from PointsOfColor. |
