by: bsrealm, ivanwfr

Checked with Update 41 Infinite Archive (9.3.5) (API 101041)
...some beta update could be in the Comments section
...last version always on GitHub

An in-combat complement to the Quickslot Radial Menu
  • Each Profile contains five custom Presets of up to eight equipped Slots.
  • One Profile for each of your characters.
  • And one for an Account-wide configuration you can access from any of your characters.
  • All Settings are saved after each session and restored at login.
And I totally approve Miss Bizz YouTube video about GQSB .. (a bit outdated but cute enough)

1. LAYOUT OPTIONS
  • You can drag an Unlocked-UI corner to visualize from one up to 8 Quick Bar Slot buttons
  • 1x8, 8x1, 2x3, .. Row x Col .. (8 cells max)

  • Activate Account-wide or Character's profile
  • In-combat delayed Preset swap (at the end of a fight)
  • Static Preset (changes won't be saved - so you can make a mess and restore anytime , possibly just at the
    end of a fight)

9. Pre-release on GitHub
Some corrections could be underway and, until next release, some In-Progress
version could be accessible on GitHub.

When you deploy a master zip from GitHub, the result should be a single folder
named after the Addon's name, under your live\Addons\ folder.

There should be no piled up folders such as GreymindQuickSlotBar\GreymindQuickSlotBar

Like so on Windows:

%USERPROFILE%\Documents\Elder Scrolls Online\live\AddOns\GreymindQuickSlotBar

you can try an copy-paste this line in File-Explorer

- check_QSB_BAG_BACKPACK_slotId_to_check:

- Added a new background to each quick slot item + settings to toggle this.
- Added visual cues based on two values (warnings, default 10 and errors, default 2) + settings to toggle and set these values.
- Added smart visual cue toggle that shows visual cues only when there's something to report.
- Can now move UI with and without background enabled and by clicking and dragging all areas around the slot items.
- New border graphic added to match ability bar.
- Settings now saved across characters!
- Better default settings.

v1.3
- Added toggle-able auto-hide feature that hides when in UI mode. Can still reposition in settings screen or with auto-hide off.

v1.2
- Fixed issue where you may not be able to move window after turning on/off show numbers via settings

v1.1
- Added reset button to settings in case the UI gets stuck somewhere
- Fixed some workflow issues in save functionality

As I never saw those compound names using the default language,
I guess it only shows when internationalization is involved...
As I display item links in the chat, I used this formating patch only with ZO_Alert popup messages.
You tell me if you see those string packages in other occasions.

Using ZO_CachedStrFormat to cleanup ZO compound names
BTW, I hate those tricks where devs think its a good idea to turn something like a name into some jargon so that it's not a name anymore but a tricky bundle that will bite you sooner or later

Please use ZO_CachedStrFormat or zo_strformat (with <<C:1>>) on all of the functions where you show chat messages/on screen alerts including the quickslotted item names.
Else it will contain the gender suffix ^ns, or ^n etc.:
Code:
You're out of 'Goldküsten-Kriegerelixier^ns' in your inventory, it won't be in this quickslot preset [P2] anymore
This should be fixed via using e.g.
Lua Code:
  1. local nameClean = ZO_CachedStrFormat("<<C:1>>", quickslottedItemName)

Applies to about all inventory items, character names, display names, map names, zone names etc. in the game and should always be "cleaned" that way.
If you do not want to hardcode the "<<C:1>>" you could also use the string constant id that Zos uses to clean the character name:
SI_UNIT_NAME

Just the old issue (very mild and easy to live with) of sometimes, on infrequent basis somewhere between uncommon and common) of items with same type but on different slot numbers being swapped (e.g. mag trash pot on slot 2 and stam trash pot on slot 3 being swapped after using char that had stam trash on slot 2 and mag trash on slot 3)
Good to know but I can't restart from there, too many new features would be missing.

The Locked preset can only make sense for those who play a lot in Cyrodiil like Trader08 who need to replace some consumed slot content with lower level / less effective items while keeping their preset unchanged.

Also, handling depleted items in the UI when the bag itself has removed the corresponding entry for them is what justifies the last feature change.

The bag completely removes those consumed items and Presets would degrade without this locking mecanism.
Told you, not a simple and clear logic, it make sense only for those who asked for it.

I'm pretty sure there is something to find about how items are referenced in the bag and each preset.
Now, the characters mixup could also have to do with ZO_SavedVars:NewCharacterIdSettings and/or the way to use it...

I will try with /gqsb debug_equip when I have some time to see something happening.
And BTW, saving debug options between sessions would be overkill/messy.

So I tried verbose, but either that setting is not working correctly (see details below) or it provides no additional info

a) turned on verbose, but problem #1 is it doesn't save between login/out sessions.

e.g Login char A, turn on verbose - reset my quickslots to desired then logout
Login char B, turn on verbose - reset my quickslots to desired then logout

Login char A, hoping to now see additional verbose info when the swap/removal happens, but I just get the same usual chat msg re: items no longer avail and removed, and the usual swapping for slots with existing items but in different slot number

I have account wide settings enabled and tested on every char, turning on verbose only stays on for that session, it won't save it and have it on when I next login, which is when I need it on. e.g. I can only turn on verbose after I've already logged into that char

What I have tried, however, is since I never see the swap/removal happen until the addon is 'triggered' some time after login (e.g. if I stand doing nothing, 1+ min can go by with with my slots all fine and addon doing nothing, it is only when I do some game action like take item out of bank it instantly triggers the addon and then the swap/removal occurs)

So what I did was after resetting both char A and B to desired quickslot states (meaning they both have some unique items on slots that other char doesn't not have in bag inventory - thus triggering a removal) and different slot number of existing trash mag/stam pots (thus triggering a swap), I logged out on char A, logged into char B, then soon as logged in press Q to confirm my slots are still fine since addon hasn't triggered yet, go into settings, turn on verbose - see the chat output confirm that verbose is enabled, then use banker to take item out of bank to trigger the addon --- but all I get with this method of turning verbose on is the same chat msg output when I had it off

Also - I am probably not understanding why the feature to lock quickslot without going into settings? e.g. what is the benefit of the feature? Again, must be not understanding what it is intended to do but so far all I can think is if you don't want your settings messed with, why don't that person just not remove items from their quickslot? e.g. we had ability to have per char saved state of different potion/item layout before, so why the need to lock it?

It appears it was only with this feature introduction that the 100% state of item removed and swapped occured. The prior bug of only sometimes an item being swapped (but never removed) was entirely livable as a mild issue. Now, least for me, it is 100% any item that exists on 1 char inventory and slot that isn't present in another char gets removed, and unlike before the swaps happen 100% of time now vs just infrequently sometimes.

The best you can do is to rely on those two tabs above: Change Log and Other Files :
  • Change Log shows every single change between one version and the next since v1.1.
  • Other Files let you download each of them as a Zip archive.
You also have a change log near the top of GreymindQuickSlotBar.lua.

If you still find fun enough to track the item swapping issue, you can activate the Verbose Tooltips option and try to make sense of all the confusing and overlapping data associated to problematic slots.

What I'm suspecting at the moment is the GetSlotName(slotIndex): itemName
which could be the same for different items resulting in wrong Item-clear or Item-equip parsing at load time.
Detecting same itemName or same itemLink would not be both as reliable to make out items when synchronizing a preset with current bags content.

It could show while navigating those verbose tooltips...

Also the dedicated debug slash-command /gqsb debug_task details the tasks sequence with a comment in the chat about each slot decision.

In fact you are obviously better equipped than I am for realizing these items collisions as I don't have enough character resources to make them happen.

If you can't pinpoint any plain contradiction, I will think of something to change in the code that would still make sense as to what should be accomplished, but with some alternate means of decision making...
Will try that out. Question though - did something change in terms of feature added that may cause the item removed from quickslot bug?

Because I've had the item swapping (like slot 2 potion swapped to slot 3 or vice versa), but it is so mild I just easily lived with it. And the frequency was somewhere between common and uncommon (e.g not so frequent it was common every day, but not so uncommon to call rare)

But never had items removed from my slots. I think the swapping of items from 1 slot to another slot placement is an easily livable side effect. The removal of any non-unique item that doesn't exist on another character seems more the sticky issue.

I can try reverting back to whichever prior version that didn't have the new feature added

After some thinking about a way to discard the extra Q keypress, the fact that GQSB is not involved in its handling shows it would be plain wrong to interfere.

But, it could very well be a subject for a dedicated addon that would filter controler or keyboard input with some smart and configurable cooldowns.

And I'm not saying I would be ready to make one ... I have my share of trouble with GQSB, thank you!

There could be something already available...?

2. As for the anti-lag spamming, there could be a soltution that would add a locking option that may help.

But! every newly added option is an opportunity for those not interested to miss the true implication of using it or not using it... that soon will get reported as bugs. This is why I have to think twice before adding one more to the 35 options we currently have in GQSB.

I suggest finding a more simple approach that would help with the required spamming that cant be right when the game is already overloading from input events... Maybe a more specific diagnostic could lead to an appropriate cooldown or locking mecanism that could be clearly understood by every player...
Thanks for considering and good points

It seems they had controllers in mind when designing this, which I understand. But I've been playing since beta and I can not stop my hand from holding Q too long in fights.

Will do the stuff you noted below - but one more test scenario uncovered sort of by accident.

If quickslot from char#1 is left blank, when I log into another char with items on those quickslots, then those slots are blanked out (e.g. item removed)

But unlike the other removal scenarios, there is no chat msg like before. Just happens silently.

Same behavior as noted before - soon as I login, can click Q and see all my slots are fine. But then soon as I do some game action like withdraw item out bank, it triggers the addon to make this change.

Discovered this by accident as I forgot to replace the blank removals in slots from char I had just tested, so I logged out with that char with 2 quickslots left blank. Then when I logged into another char with normal setup - all slots filled, it replaced the same 2 slots with blanks like my last char, but as noted with no error msg this time.

Edit - question on "The default (near line 465 of last version) is LockThisPreset = false,.
Can you make sure to set it OFF while testing."

Q: Is the setting of OFF same as this line set to false, or should it be set to true? e.g. how do I make sure it is set to off?

And that could be a problem since I considered xen32 post on 05/02/21, 12:47 PM:

Is there an option to NOT remove things from preset if I have none when I switch?

I answered with v2.6.3.4 release candidate on 05/08/21, 12:24 AM introducing this "Lock this preset" option that would satisfy those asking for it while, and more importantly, disturbing those who don't care.
...as you can read from all those last five forum pages since then.

The best next move would be to put that out of the way while considering the issues you are tracking.

The default (near line 465 of last version) is LockThisPreset = false,.
Can you make sure to set it OFF while testing.
I suspect there may be other causes for trouble but if this gets you out of the wood, I will seriously consider adding the warning message I prepared in the Settings dialog:
(scary warn sign) Please, don't use this one!
...unless you really know what you are doing,
this could pretty well feel like you are dealing with a bug
randomly screwing up your slotted items!

Nice of you to check this far, it certainly helps knowing we're not wasting time looking in wrong places
