Foundry Tactical Combat (FTC)  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)
Version: 0.72
by: Atropos [More]
Foundry Tactical Combat is a user interface enhancement for The Elder Scrolls Online designed to give players access to relevant combat data in an easy to process framework which allows them to respond quickly and effectively to evolving combat situations. The multiple components of the FTC addon are designed to restore certain information to the game interface which many gamers may feel is missing from the default minimalistic UI.

The addon is still in active development by Atropos, and will hopefully continue to evolve and improve during the coming weeks and months. If you are a fan of the addon, keep an eye on the main addon page on Tamriel Foundry to ensure you always have the latest version.

FTC Components

Foundry Tactical Combat has six primary components which are each optionally configurable. All UI elements added by FTC can be disabled or repositioned to suit your preferences. Additionally, Foundry Tactical Combat is fully localized for French and German client versions!

Unit Frames – FTC Unit Frames refers to the display of attribute bars and other information pertaining to yourself, your target, and your group members. The FTC frames are designed to be lightweight and informative. The frames show numerical values for your resources and damage shielding, as well as visual indicators for active HoT and DoT effects, your target’s exceute threshold, and more. The unit frames can have a rich set of aesthetic customization options allowing you to achieve the exact look that fits your UI style.

Active Buff Tracking – The Buff Tracking component of FTC displays a configurable list of icons representing the known buff and debuff effects that are currently affecting your character. The ESO addon API does not provide this information for buffs with durations shorter than 30 seconds, but FTC uses an intelligent combination of detection mechanisms to carefully approximate your inventory of active effects. This knowledge can help you make more informed combat decisions, improve your resource management, and optimize your ability rotation.

Combat Log – Foundry Tactical Combat incorporates a text-based combat log which records a history of combat events so that you can review the details of recent encounters. The combat log by default alternates visibility with the ESO chat tab, but can be detached and positioned wherever you desire on-screen. An optional keybinding can be used to quickly toggle the visibility of the combat log.

Scrolling Combat Text – The FTC Scrolling Combat Text component enables real-time display of damage and healing values as they occur in combat as well as a helpful Combat Alerts component that warns your character immediately when significant combat events occur. FTC’s combat text displays the name and icon (when possible) for known sources of damage as well as useful indicators for damage avoidance through shielding, blocking, or dodging. The display style and format of scrolling combat text events can be customized in the settings menu.

Damage Statistics – The Damage Statistics component adds analytical tools to help you examine and improve your combat performance. While in-combat a small DPS meter tracks the length of your current encounter, your cumulative damage-per-second, and your cumulative healing-per-second throughout the fight. After combat has concluded, you can open a full Damage Report which details the composition of your damage and healing by target. These statitics can be linked to your party members in chat using a configurable keybinding or by clicking on the chat icons in the damage report.

Advanced Hotbar – The Advanced Hotbar component improves the default ESO action bar by adding some additional information that is useful in combat. Your current Ultimate pool and your percentage towards the next Ultimate activation is displayed as well as a visual glow indicator behind the ultimate itself which indicates that you are currently generating additional Ultimate in combat. The Advanced Hotbar component also adds an explicit potion cooldown timer so you can know exactly when you will be able to use your next consumable item.

Installation Instructions
To install Foundry Tactical Combat follow these steps. FTC is also supported by Minion, an automated ESO addon management utility.

1) Download FTC_Current.zip to a location of your choosing.
2) Extract the .zip archive into your ESO addons folder found in My Documents/Elder Scrolls Online/live/Addons/ for Windows users, or Documents/Elder Scrolls Online/live/Addons. for OS X.
3) You should now have a folder inside Addons named “FoundryTacticalCombat” which contains the addon files.
4) Launch The Elder Scrolls Online. FTC should be automatically enabled. If not, go to the Add-Ons section of the game menu and make sure that the box beside Foundry Tactical Combat is checked.
5) Access the FTC configuration settings by navigating in-game to Settings -> Add-Ons -> FTC, or by simply typing “/ftc” into chat.

Hey Atropos. I'm like a few others in that I personally preferred the prior version. That's not saying I don't appreciate what you've done here. It's just new and different. I simply got spoiled on it. I had used it for so long that my eyes and gaming habits were built around it. It's just frustrating right now. Again, not a knock on the tool.

I believe I can basically get what I want with customization except for buffs/debuffs. In the prior versions, with default bars enabled, they lined up in the perfect place for me (without customization). Now I just can't seem to get it right. Maybe I need to spend more time on it? Just seems the buff/debuff alignment options aren't quite the same.

It's kind of funny, but it reminds me of win8. Most people hated it because they completely changed the start menu. After a while there were apps to replace the functionality until MS added the option in 8.1 to put it back.

I'm not saying you should do the same thing as it's not like you are getting paid for this. Still...having an option to allow folks to go directly to the previous version's layout/settings would thrill a lot of folks.

One way or the other...thank you very much for what you've brought to the entire ESO community. Both this add-on and your very valuable site!

Honestly anything that you could possibly consider as "clutter" or "flashiness" can be disabled. Please just play around with the options before you get all dramatic.

Thank you so much Nisadir, it is really very much appreciated! I'm just trying to make the game better for folks.

Hey Scoot, I'm sorry but I'm not totally clear on what you mean. Could you give me an example?

I think I need to clean my glasses or get my eyes tested
Those alerts WILL change size as you change your general scrolling combat text font size, but if you want to make them bigger/smaller RELATIVE to the combat text I don't have a supported setting for that yet. I can think about adding something.

I'll continue looking into this... you should always be able to just hit (.) if you lose your mouse cursor for some reason but I'll look into it.

No, I'd say it should not. I'll look into it.

Yep, I agree this would be cool. I'll think about ways to do this without adding a ton of bloat to the saved variables file. As a user, do you think a feature like this would be useful if you were limited to say.... 10 saved parses?

Yeah, this is kinda a tricky issue. Here's a short description of the problem.

Suppose someone is using the custom FTC group and raid frames. Now that person goes to turn those frames off... what do I do with the default frames that I have hidden? Should I show them because now they are not using the FTC frames? Should I leave them hidden in case that person is using a different addon for group frames? Whichever way I go with it, I'm going to be wrong for a bunch of people. I can get around this with some more complicated logic and an extra forced /reloadui whenever you change the setting. That's probably the right solution, but that hurts the user experience with FTC a bit. At the end of the day I'm hoping that people will choose my group/raid frames over those provided by another addon, but I understand that wont be the case for everyone.

I'm not sure if this is possible or not, but I agree it would be an improvement. I'll see what I can do.

Hi Harry, thanks for expressing your feedback. My intention was for a user to be able to achieve the same level of "intrusiveness" as the old FTC if they preferred that. You can reduce the size of unit frames, you can change the colors, you can change the font, you can turn down the non-combat opacity to make the frames fade more, you can turn off DPS icons, you can keep the old buffs style, etc.. etc.. Honestly there is very little (nothing?) that was in the old version that is not possible in the new version with a bit of customization.

Could you give me some details about exactly where the new version of FTC falls short after you try to customize it to suit your needs? Or were you simply saying you don't like the way it looks "out of the box"?

unit frames functions not everytime

I experienced that in Cyro. I dont know if that occurs somewhere else too.

-1st Ive entered Cyro.
-Then if I join a group I see the ftc group frame and everythings fine.
-I leave it and join another one I get the standard frame and not the ftc unit frame.
-To correct that i have to reload UI.
-I tried it several times and I could do this happen.

Siege Weapon Health

I have to admit, Im not a fan of having siege health only show if you are operating it. With my own siege, I try and waver it around 30% health so when I repair it I get the extra healing bonus on it, and while possible to guestimate with the new bar, it doesn't give any sort of hard numbers, so you do have to roughly gauge when the bar is at 30% or below instead of just having to glance at a number and that being it.

It also makes it impossible to see in a group if you are going down the siege line what the % is on other players siege is (namely coldfire) to try and see who could use a repair kit or two.

I would be grateful if you would consider having some sort of option to display siege health just as it were any other target when looked at directly in the same manner FTC currently operates for Keep Walls and such of that nature.

I specifically added a change in the most recent update to make crits more distinguishable. I suspect that you are simply not used to the change and will have to re-learn to notice the difference. In my experience the new method for denoting crits is easier to notice than the asterisk method previously. I won't be changing it back.
No, I was writing it after you made that change. Crits aren't distinguishable from non-crits during fights in the latest version.

I'm just not able to distinguish them. Believe it or not. This is genuine and honest user feedback. Bring back the asterisk please.

One small thing since updating this game-saving mod:

I have the combat log enabled, but only want it up when I toggle it on (alternate with chat is off). Yet even though toggled off, it will reappear when I relog...and it occasionally reappears when I zone. Not a big deal really...just toggle it off again, but having it on when I log in results in the chat window being suppressed until hitting "/" to wake it up...even if there is active chat going on, or I have received a tell. I was running around Cyrodiil for 30 minutes wondering why things were so quiet, noticed chat minimized, went to type a message to a guildie and saw that the usual Cyrodiil and guild chatter had been going on all along, but I wasn't seeing it any longer. After waking it up, the chat window remained responsive to chat. Disabling the combat log feature also returned the chat window to normal. I also tried leaving the combat log enabled and disabled pChat, but this had no effect. Long story short, this isn't a big deal...but, I have to remember to wake chat upon logging in, or I will miss anything going on in that window. Am I missing a setting somewhere?

Otherwise, this add-on is a beautiful thing...thank you for all of your hard work on it!
