Harven's Quest Journal  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)
Version: 2.9.2
by: Harven, votan
DependenciesDescription
This is my vision of the quest journal. I wanted it to look more classic, like TES3 Morrowind's quest journal. It has full functionality of the original ESO quest journal plus some additions. The additions include:
- display of times (start time, steps times, end time),
- quests history (Completed Quest),
- quests conversations (quest start/end dialogs),
- display of completed quests rewards,
- quest progression steps,
- possibility to change the journal appearance (skin, font, colors)
To open the journal type /journal command or go to the controls menu and set your desired key binding. The quest history contains only quest completed after this addon installation.

Quest Journal Navigation
Navigation tips are shown on the bottom strip. Here are the defaults:

Current Quests page
T - switch to the Completed Quests page,
LMB - click on a quest name to switch to details page,
RMB - click on a quest name to set it as focused.

Completed Quests page
T - switch to the Current Quests page,
LMB - switch to details page of selected quest,

Quest Details page
T - back to the Current/Completed Quest page,
E - previos page,
R - next page,
F - share quest (if the quest is not completed),
X - abandon quest (if the quest is not completed),
X - delete quest (if the quest is completed),
F1 - set as focused (if the quest is not completed),
M - show on map (if the quest is not completed),

Quest Stage removal

Hello, while I really like your addon I have encountered a small bug( possibly within the game itself).

When I traveled to a new region with a new character I got an update to the "Go to Wrothgar" quest from Orsinium DLC. Thing is that my journal had a different quest focused and that focused quest got the new entry.

Being the pedantic OCD player that I am I had to abandon and retake the quest, but I'm afraid of it happening again. Would it be possible to remove specific entries just from your journal?

I had also suggested in the past if Harven, or someone else with 'complete' factions uploaded their lua file or even just a txt file with all of the completed quests for a given faction, we could then cut and paste that into our file and capture those previous quests, but in a more crude way. I, for example, am pretty just missing all the AD quests because I installed after they were done.

The other info is available only when a quest is in progress. Also only current step description is available at given time.

I'm afraid that when I add the feature people will start complaining that they can't click completed quests titles to see their details (I mean quests completed before installing this addon or after a wipe). Will you complain about it?

I agree with you Racke and I believe this is doable. There has been a few times when i quit ESO, it forced rebooted my PC and when going back into ESO, all my add-ons have been reset to default settings and my completed quests in Harven's have been wiped.

Harven needs to update the quest journal to be like "destinations" where (with the option to display completed quest markers to be off), that once the quest is completed the marker on the map would not appear.
Harven needs in incorporate this feature where once a quest is completed, should add it to your completed journal section regardless of when you install the add-on in the first place. Even after going back into ESO after ESO rebooted PC, "destination" add-on markers have not been affected and my completed quests are still marked completed.
If not Harven, hope someone else can create this feature (unfortunately my LUA coding skills is non-existent and coding is kinda at a novice/amateur/rookie/n00b level)

This occured when I had an issue where ESO has rebooted my PC after quitting (this is not the first time).
And upon going back into ESO, all my add-ons had been reset to its default settings and Harven's Quest Journal has had all the completed quests erased.

To restore everything back the way it was, I had to "restore previous versions" of the savedvariables folder, in this case, previous version was saved a week ago.

Harven's completed quests have returned except for any new ones completed within the week.
So to manually add the 4 extra quests I had completed, I had to modify the LUA file.

As I am writing this at work (Shh!..don't tell ), and trying to remember how the quest code format is written into the Savedvariables -> harvensquestjournal.lua file, below is the code (or similar on how I remember it)

Lua Code:
  1. [Malabal Tor]
  2. {
  3.     { [House and Home]}
  4.         {
  5.         [1] = "House and Home",
  6.         [2] = "50",
  7.         [3] = "Redguard invaders and Wood Orcs from the Drublog clan attacked Velyn Harbor. Lieutenant Ehran plans to create a militia to take back the city."
  8.         [4] = "145671645"
  9.         [5] =
  10.             {
  11.             [1] = "0",
  12.             [2] = "0",
  13.             [3] = "Velyn Harbor"
  14.             [4] =
  15.                 {
  16.                 [2] =
  17.                     {
  18.                     [2] = "Civilians are trapped in the Trade Hall and Mages Guild by the Drublog. Rescue them. The sergeant can arm them and organize a counterattack under the Fists of Thalmor banner. Tell them to get to the Fighters Guild barracks. We'll meet them there. ",
  19.                     [1] = " A Redguard force made landfall and assaulted Velyn Harbor! They must've made a deal with the Drublog clan of Wood Ores, as they attacked from the hills at the same time. Captain Cularalda was at the docks. She's either dead or cut off. That leaves me in charge. ",
  20.                     }
  21.                 [1] =
  22.                     {
  23.                     [2] = "I'll rescue the civilians.",
  24.                     [1] = "What can I do to help?",
  25.                     }
  26.                 }
  27.             [5] = "Lieutenant Ehran",
  28.             [6] = "Malabal Tor"
  29.             [7] = "I'm as in charge of this madhouse as anyone, but I have no time for diplomats. ",
  30.             }
  31.         [7] =
  32.         [8] = "Malabal Tor"
  33.         [9] =
  34.             {
  35.             [1] = "I need to rally them and rendezvous at the Fighters Guild.",
  36.             }
  37.         [12] = "145673645"
  38.         [13] = "0"
  39.         }
  40.     }

What I had done was copy and pasted the Malabal Tor's house and home quest a few times (as this was the last quest completed in my journal), Then renamed the Titles, cities, dialogue and times according to the quests I had already completed such as "One fell Swoop and The hounds men"
Upon loading up in ESO, they appear fine in the journal. If I click on "One fell swoop" or " The hounds men", It shows the Quest name, Quest giver info, Location, etc. If I click on the Quest givers name, it shows the Dialogue.

BUT...only for "House and Home", If I click on House and Home, It opens Lieutenant Ehran's Dialogue page straight away. Only having to Press Back (T) to then see the proper Quest info page.

Why is this?
All the info is correct and quest code appears in correct format as other quest code.
Can somebody shed some light on this.
(it's not like it matters and that I am going to click on it but it's part of my OCD that itches me knowing this issue exists )

Cheers

Disregard this. Corrected itself once I had done a few quests.

One completed quest displays quest giver info first

I am having the issue where when i go to read a completed quest, where usually it would show with the Quest title and info after it and if you click on the Quest Givers name, it will show his dialogue. 9.         [5] =
  10.             {
  11.             [1] = "0",
  12.             [2] = "0",
  13.             [3] = "Velyn Harbor"
  14.             [4] =

This data would allow me to display quests names only - you wouldn't be even able to click the quest name to see other information. I don't think it's wort the effort. You probalby didn't know about that.
Just wanted to mention that it could be worth it from a completionist point of view; even if there are no details available, having a list of completed quests would help some people who have forgotten which quests they've done already. There's quite a few threads on the forums recently of players getting stuck in quest chains because they don't know which quests they've already completed. Combining a list of completed quests with an external database would help those players see what they still need to do.

On that note, could such API information also directly produce a list of not-started quests (à la Quest Map)? Then the Journal could also list those missing quests that are hidden in the back-of-beyond under an "Available" section.
I used to use Quest Lurker to know how many quests I did and how many were left, but it doesn't work anymore. I'd love to see an addon able to tell us what quests we did, and what quest are left, even if we don't have any info. If we got the title of the quest we can check info on a web database.
I don't know how much work is needed to do this but if you got some spare time to develop this I'm sure a lot of people would be really happy.

Re: Re: Re: Previously completed quests

House of Winter's quest journal (which is no longer supported) used a database of quests which was checked to show which ones were available/completed. I used to use it with Harven's and they worked well together, so I was considering reviving it. I haven't heard back from the author, so I might just do a patched version of HoW's quest journal unless Harven is planning to build a quest database and add it to his or is looking for an alternative method.

edit: looking at quest map now, thought you meant one of the website maps not a new addon

Previously completed quests

I saw on the ESO forums that API commands for pulling previously completed quests is now available, are there any plans to add this to the journal? I'm not sure how it would work, as I imagine it would not be able to time stamp the quest steps.. but might time stamp it as the first time the add-on ran when it actually pulled in this info?

No big deal, I just wish I had started using this add-on earlier, it's absolutely gorgeous and thank you for all your hard work!

I would like to ask for a change in the way completed quests are shown.

Right now if you search for a quest you get a list with all the completed quests mixed with the area names. Since there are hundreds of quests sometimes is a bit hard to get the one you are searching for.

Is it possible to add a tiered list where you get only area names in the first level and, selecting the wanted area, get a second level with only quests from that area?

Hey, great addon! I have one small piece of criticism though. I believe the "Sort by" drop-down menu should be better integrated to the journal itself. It looks out of place, especially for an addon that tries to emulate the look of an actual journal.

Thanks!
