Version: 0.4.8
by: Baertram [More]
IMPORTANT CHANGE - Version 0.3.8
This addon depends on the following libraries:
-LibAddonMenu-2.0

FCO Chat Tab Brain

Newest features:
-Settings to remember the last active chat tab at logout/reloadui -> Automatically set the last active chat tab after login/reloadui again

The changelog was moved to the appropriate panel, because Minion will finally be able to show the changelog correctly too. Plesae click on the blue text "Changelog" inside Minion's addon popup.

FCO Chat Tab Brain brings you the brain for your chat tabs:
  • Options to set the fade out time of the chat window and chat window buttons (after a contact cam online/went offline, mails were received, notifications were added, ...) separately
  • Will remember the last used channel and the last contacted person, for each of your chat tabs
  • will automatically change to a chat tab (you chose it) upon incoming chat messages (like "open group chat tab if group chat comes in"). A chat inactivity time can pe set to avoid changing tabs as you are still reading
  • Play more then 500 different sounds upon incoming chat messages, dinstinguished by receiving chat channel (whisper, guild 1, guild 2, say, etc.), keywords or ignored account-/character-names
-> See the file "ESO_sound_list.nfo" inside the ZIP archive for a list of all sounds, and their number (choose/enter this number at the settings panel ingame to hear a test playing)
  • Switch to last incoming chat channel (e.g. /guild1) automatically if you start your next outgoing chat message. Your message will be sent in (e.g. /guild1) then and you just need to press RETURN, type your text and send it.
  • Change chat tab header color to light blue if a message came in and you are not currently active at this chat tab
  • Enables you to mark/unmark all chat tab options with one click
  • You will be able to change your chat tabs by keybndings
  • You will be able to cycle the chat tabs left/right by keybindings
  • You will be able to show/hide the chat window by keybindings too
  • Redirect your outgoing whisper messages to one selected chat tab. All your whispers will be send and received in the same, clean, chat tab!
  • Activate your whisper chat tab automatically upon incoming whispers (only if you do not write text currently!)
  • The annoying chat buttons + labels (friends, mail, messages) can be hidden even if the friends online/messages/mails are > 0 (You'll have to enable the ESO standard option for the chat fade out/transparency!)
  • The minimized chat will hide all buttons and only show the small corner texture
  • Use keybindings to switch between the last chat channels of incoming chat messages (setting to scroll the chat to the bottom upon keybind usage for tab changes)
  • Settings to scroll the chat to the bottom upon new incoming chat messages, which change a chat tab (respecting the inactivity/idle timers!)
  • Keybinds to scroll the chat to the top/bottom

And many other possibilities...

This will only work with the standard ESO chat tabs!

Many thanks to the following people:
-Garkin, for the help with the chat tab code!

What is the idea of this addon?

Do you use different chat tabs to distinguish between zone chat, guilds, party, whispers, etc.?
Ever got annoyed from the chat not remembering your last channel you talked in, after you switched the different chat tabs?
You talked to your party, switched to your guil, strat to write a message and your party will get it?
So you need to manually enter /g1 in the chat, after you change the tab to your guild, and then you can finally start to write text...
You can change the chat tab to a special one that you like to check, or just cycle the tabs to the left/right using keybindings. This will even work during fighting, so you won't miss your guild's messages anymore, when they plan to do this particular vet. dungeon you wanted to join.

This disturbing handling is history now!

FCO Chat Tab Brain will remember everything for you. Even after relogging it will put you the last used chat channel into each tab as you select the tabs!

How to use this addon?

Download the addon, enable it, have a look at the settings and start to chat.
The brain will remember, for each of your chat tabs, which channel (e.g. zone, party, guild1, tell, etc.) you talked in and which contact person you have written to (for a /tell or /whisper).
-> You will have to succesfuly send a message to the chat tab so "the brain" get's active for the current chat tab!

You could also use chat commands:

/fcochattabbrain <parameter>
/fcoctb <parameter>

Supported parameters
'help' / 'list': Shows information
'status' / '': Shows the current status
'on': Enable the chat tab brain
'off': Disable the chat tab brain
'toggle': Enable/Disable the hat tab brain

Compatibility
Currently nly compatible with the stanndard ESO chat container!

-Updated: Security checks for supported chat channels

0.1.9

-Added feature: Also enable whisper message idle time, like the other idle times too
-Added feature: Option to 'Change chat channel to whisper':
Reckognize incoming whisper messages and enable answering to the sender by pressing RETURN key, if you are at the whisper tab (old behaviour: Pressing RETURN key started a whisper message to the last whispered person and you had to use 'Reply to whisper' keybinding to answer the last incoming sender)

Example:

-A chat inactivity time for each chat channel (say, yell, group, guild 1-5, officer 1-5, sytem) can be set to avoid changing tabs as you are still reading.
-If you are moving the mouse in and out of the chat or you are typing text, changing tabs manually the automatic tab changing will not be triggered (you ar active in the chat then)
-Settings to avoid automatic chat tab changes if you are grouped are included!

0.0.9c - > 0.1.0
Added "whisper redirect" function: Clean whispering only in 1 chat tab!

If you use several chat tabs, and especially 1 chat tab for your incoming whispers, you will love this new feature:
(o) Choose your whisper chat tab number in the settings (value=0 means "whisper redirect" is disabled!)
(o) If you start a whisper, no matter how you start it, the whisper chat tab will be opened and your message will be send from here

-> Only 1 single chat tab to send and receive your whispers
-> No more started whispers in several different chat tabs, which will need you to manually change the chat channel again (to guild or group e.g.)
-> Simply use ChatTabBrain keybindings to switch through your chat tabs, press RETURN key and start to write in this channel

Will redirect you to the whisper chat tab if you:
-Autocomplete a whisper name by pressing the TAB key, using the mouse or the keyboard UP and DOWN keys to select an auto complete entry
-Reply to an incoming whisper by keybinding
-Start a whisper by using the chat commands
-Start a whisper by using the mouse's right click context-menu (at the guild roster, friends-list etc.)

To come:
-Directly switch to whisper chat tab if you left click a player in the chat (currently this will only select his name and if you write the whisper message and press RETURN the whisper channel will be shown)
-Same for the right mouse button context menu at a player in the chat

This error has appeared since last update for me. I have deleted the saved variables to see if it helped, but no luck.

Well the remaining problem seems to have evaporated, despite the mod not being updated, when I changed a guild. I don't know why, but it's all good now. FYI.

Well lately I have changed a guild, shifting the last half of them left in the tabs. Now it is behaving differently, and I haven't really figured out if the problem still exists. So let's hold off on that until I figure it out. Thnx for the offer though - you're the best.

Ok, please send me your saved variables file of my addon.
I'll have to check it myself with your settings to see what is preventing the guild4 tab to work properly.

The file is located here:"C:\users\<your windows user name>\documents\Elder Scrolls Online\live<eu>\SavedVariables\FCOChatTabBrain.lua"

If you don't want me to know your account/character names edit this file with a texteditor and chaneg the "[@yourAccountname]" and/or your [character names] in this file to something else like "[@AccountName[" and/or "[CharName]".

Thanks for your help!
I'll try to fix this asap as I found out where it's coming from.

These are the chat tab labels:
Code:
Chat Grp Blue I Mrcht GW Red Gold
Every time I choose "Red" the chat channel input stays set to the last used channel.
I have set up all guild tabs exactly the same, set to the proper guild number.
I have double- and triple-checked my mod settings, and non-mod tab settings.
My other mods also have a consistent setting across all the guild tabs.
I have double- and triple-checked Shissu's Guild Tools settings.
I have "No, thank you!" disabled.
Yet I have to type /g4 when I use the Red tab.

I find it odd that I only have a problem with the one tab. FYI.

2. Don't change the chat channel to the last incoming chat channel, if you are currently using the chat's edit field (writing text already)

Check these 2 options. I think I disabled them by default. MAybe one of them is activated and this is why the chat channel doesn't change (because you are active in the chat and writing/answering).
Well if these settings are in there, I can't find them. Not that it matters, because it is working good enough now (it's moot).

I have used it almost a week without a single UI error now.
However, now the chat type (e.g. /g2) doesn't change when I change tabs. It might be a setting of one of my other mods though, I just don't know. It used to do this properly. I haven't figured it out yet.

So if you post messages yourself you get an error message, or how am I supposed to understand this sentence?

If I don't post, then everything is working as desired. Thank you very much.
Please tell me if you still get any error messages with the most current version. I'll try to fix them asap.
Thanks!

-Fixed: Hopefully finally fixed this annoying lua nil error with chat tab colors now.

It seems to be the color that was causing this bug. I still wonder why it was working for me and about 30 other confirmed users, and only 2 (known) got problems with it.
But I hope it is fixed now.

This is really weird
Yes, if you are able to please deactivate all other addons and test if the error is still happening.

You said you have changed the chat colors and after this the error happend? Which chat colors did you change and what are their values now?
Are you able to change the chat colors to default values again and does the error still happen then?

Are you able to make and send me screenshots of the current FCOChatTabBrain settings that you are using? Or maybe you can send me the SavedVariables file of FCOChatTabBrain (before login or after logout in the game!)?

Thank you really much for your effort and support. I'd be glad if we can track this error down.

It seems to happen at the standard ESO source code where the "Text" control of that chat tab header will be searched and the color will be changed afterwards. At the time it is searched it won't be found (value = nil) and then they try to change the color for a "non existing" (nil) Text control.

I'm not sure why it is not found, as it will be always found if I test it with my PC.
I even tried to delay it some milliseconds and this has the same results for me.

Something in your settings or the performance of your pc maybe will lead to this.

Thx Circonian, but this addon is not meant to support several chat containes form other addons.
I won't add support for this.
The "clear chat text" will only clear the chat text at the currently active chat tab, so everything works as intended. I don't need to clear ALL the tabs at ALL containers.
It shall only help users who have 1 tab for several chat channels activated, so they can get a better overview inside this chat tab (as requested).

I didn't read what the request was about, but I should have added:
Lua Code:
  1. CHAT_SYSTEM.primaryContainer.currentBuffer:Clear()
That code will only clear the chat in the main chat tab of the main chat window. If the user is using something like ChatIt that allows multiple chat windows it will not clear those. Also it will not clear the chat from any extra chat tabs they have created in the main chat window. Each chat tab in each window has their own chat buffer so they would all need to be cleared individually.

The following code will clear all chat from each tab in each window:
Lua Code:
  1. local function ClearAllChatWindowBuffers()
  2.     -- Loop through all containers, then each window (tab) in each container
  3.     for k,container in pairs(CHAT_SYSTEM.containers) do
  4.         for k, windowTemplate in pairs(container.windows) do
  5.             windowTemplate.buffer:Clear()
  6.         end
  7.     end
  8. end

If you need to clear only certain chat windows/tabs you will have to figure out how to tell them apart, maybe using the enabled/disabled chat filters. I do not know if the chat container IDs or the window keys are guaranteed to be the same in between /reloadUI 's so I don't know if you could use those or not.

CHAT_SYSTEM.containers -- Refers to the chat windows, each chat window is a "container"
container.windows -- Holds the templates for each window (the individual tabs).
