Known Issues :
-Do not use a keybind that uses Alt. For example, Alt+Shift+x, Alt+Ctrl+x, all keybinds without Alt are good.
-If you get an error message first read and apply the information from above, written below the headline
After updating pChat please be sure to check the subfolder "lib" is not there anymore. If it is still there: Delete it!

Any problems : Please let me know with a comment or a PM.
Please read the sticky comment (first comment) before posting a bug!

Important information:
Chat addons cannot work properly if the CrownStore is open! This is due to ZOs restrictions to protect the crown store against changes via addons and affects the chat as well.

Other chat addons
FCOChatTabBrain: Auto switch multiple chat tabs upon incoming messges, remember last chat channel at each tab, automatically change chat channels to last incoming one upon pressing <chat start> (RETURN) key, redirect whisper messages, play sound notifications on messages (keywords, friends, group, leaders, guilds), auto switch to group, and many more features.

If your chat addon needs to be compatible with pChat
The CHAT_ROUTER:RegisterMessageFormatter only allows 1 function for each EVENT_CHAT_* callback function!
If you assign it new you'll overwrite exisitng ones!
So ALWAYS please check if any other chat addon is enabled, add these other known chat addons to your manifest txt ## OptionalDependsOn: list so the other addons load before your addon, and afterwards "post hook", or manually post hook, the other message formatter callback function -> See example for pChat below.
ATENTION: pChat uses the EVENT_PLAYER_ACTIVATED callback to register the message formatters! If you want to post hook it you MUST do that after your own EVENT_PLAYER_ACTIVATED callback! Using EVENT_ADD_ON_LOADED will make pChat overwrite your callback function again (and it's no good to use EVENT_ADD_ON_LOADED here as the chat is ready first after first called EVENT_PLAYER_ACTIVATED)!

Example code for your EVENT_PLAYER_ACTIVATED callback function, for the chat message formatter of EVENT_CHAT_MESSAGE_CHANNEL
Lua Code:
  1. local function myChatHandlersMessageChannelReceiver(channelID, from, text, isCustomerService, fromDisplayName)
  2.         --your chat EVENT_CHAT_MESSAGE_CHANNEL callback function
  3.     end
  4.     --For the example OR - Wrapper function for the existing EVENT_CHAT_MESSAGE_CHANNEL callbackFunction
  5.     local function myOnChatMessageChannelWrapper(messageText)
  6.        local messageTextNew = messageText
  7.        --Do whatever you need with the messageText passed in from original function
  8.        return messageTextNew
  9.     end
  10.
  11.
  12.     if pChat == nil then
  13.         --pChat is not loaded: Add your own handler to the CHAT_ROUTER
  14.         --I'd always check if any other chat addon is active though and maybe thus always add the code below, even if pChat is not loaded
  15.         --as it will keep exisitng callback functions of other addons or event add to the original vanilla chat formatter callback function
  16.         CHAT_ROUTER:RegisterMessageFormatter(EVENT_CHAT_MESSAGE_CHANNEL, myChatHandlersMessageChannelReceiver)
  17.     else
  18.         --pChat is loaded
  19.         --!!!ATTENTION!!!
  20.         --Do the following at EVENT_PLAYER_ACTIVATED after pChat has set CHAT_ROUTER:RegisterMessageFormatter(EVENT_CHAT_MESSAGE_CHANNEL, pChatChatHandlersMessageChannelReceiver)
  21.         --Get all chat formatters. Table formatters will contain the different chat event entries, like EVENT_CHAT_MESSAGE_CHANNEL now
  22.         local formatters = CHAT_ROUTER:GetRegisteredMessageFormatters()
  23.         --Get the chat callback function for EVENT_CHAT_MESSAGE_CHANNEL of pChat
  24.         local originalpChatFormatter = formatters[EVENT_CHAT_MESSAGE_CHANNEL]
  25.         if originalpChatFormatter then
  26.
  27.            --Either:
  28.             --Post Hook pChat's EVENT_CHAT_MESSAGE_CHANNEL callbackFunction by re-applying the own handler function
  29.             --which first calls pChat's function, and then your own code
  30.             CHAT_ROUTER:RegisterMessageFormatter(EVENT_CHAT_MESSAGE_CHANNEL, function(...)
  31.                 local messageTextOfpChatHandler = originalpChatFormatter(...)
  32.                 --Do something with messageTextOfpChatHandler if you need to
  33.                 return myChatHandlersMessageChannelReceiver(...)
  34.             end)
  35.
  36.           --Or:
  37.           --As the callback function of EVENT_CHAT_MESSAGE_CHANNEL returns  Instead of a manual posthook your could also define your own "wrapper" function around the original function
  38.           CHAT_ROUTER:RegisterMessageFormatter(EVENT_CHAT_MESSAGE_CHANNEL , function(...)
  39.                     return myOnChatMessageChannelWrapper(originalpChatFormatter (...))
  40.                 end)
  41.
  42.         end
  43.     end

## v10.0.2.0 ## 2021-06-19
-Changed the SavedVariables to Server dependent ones: Means NA and EU server will save different settings and histories now.
Your current "non-server dependent" settings will be automatically copied to the server you login (NA, EU, PTS).
On-screen and chat messages, as well as LibDebugLogger messages (in the DebugLogViewer UI if you use this) will show you what was migrated and as it finished (2 automatic reloadUIs should happen during the migration process).

Attention: You are able to delete the non-server dependent (old) SavedVariables, to clean up the SV file s ize and increase the loading times, by using the chat slag command /pchatdeleteoldsv
BUT: Do NOT use this command before having logged in to ALL of the servers you play on! These non-server dependent settings are used as the copy base for the different servers. Copying SV from e.g. server NA to EU is not possible! So FIRST login to each server you play on, enable pChat and the dependencies, watch the screen for the migration messages and the reloaduis until it says finished.
After having migrated all servers you can use the slash command to delete the old SV file contents.

## v10.0.0.3 ##
After some users were not able to find the name format dropdown boxes for guilds and groups in the chat channel submenus, and thought the name format setting in the chat message submenu would apply to all chat messages:
Changed the settings so that the "name format" dropdown boxes for guild and group are also shown (duplicate) in the "message options"->"names in messages" submenu.

Hopefully the "bug reports" stop now as you will find them all at one spot :-)

## v10.0.0.1 ##

Attention: If you got the addon "DebugLogViewer" enabled the debug messages of addons will be ONLY shown in the DebugLogViewer UI/Quicklog UI, and NOT in the normal chat anymore! This is normal and an intended behaviour.
-Chat tab switch to default chat tab, after login

Added:
-Settings to enable/disable the chat format handlers (colors, timestamps, names, etc.).
You can find these settings as new submenu inside the "Message settings" submenu.
The following chat handlers can be enable/disabled:
  • System messages
  • Group left
  • Group type change
  • Friends list online status
  • Ignore list added
  • Ignore list removed
Standard setting value is: Enabled
You can use them to disable the chat formatters for e.g. online status and thus fix problems with other addons like "No Thank You".
You MUST reload the UI to change these settings so be sure to do so after changing the checkboxe values.

pChat is working fine and the reason it throws an error here is because ItemSetCollectionTracker was trying to send a chat message, as you can see from the call stack trace: At the bottom is the beginning and at the top pChat suffers from any text that was passed in by that other addon.

Unfortunately one is not able to see which message in detail was send by that addon "ItemSetCollectionTracker"?
Normally it should work fine, but there must have been some special characters or whatever in the text.
Do you have any details for me what the text was that this addon wanted to send?

What I can see is that pChat tries to split the text at a : into the linkType (which is "display") and the name, but the name is missing somehow.
So it will create the error message there.
Either ItemSetCollectionTracker is sending incomplete data about any username or I do not know what is the cause, but without the addon it's working fine. So please contact the author of that addon and ask what is send, and provide an example at best.

Looks to me like the cause is the ItemSetCollectionTracker addon. I also had this addon and uninstalled it again because it was causing problems for me.

Re: was excited.. but

If you want to see the character name instead of the @displayName you are able to change that in ESO default settings for the game.

Else there is a "clearly structured" pChat settings menu where you are able to read the "headlines" of the settings (the expandable submenu names). The one setting you are searching for can be found by logically following these submenu names:
pChat settings menu -> Message options -> Names in messages -> Guilds -> open the guild you want to change -> choose the name style from the dropdown -> done

I'm sad that you are not able to find it but there is no easier way to show all the available settings, and pChat grew over time so there are a lot of settings available meanwhile.

was excited.. but

SO many bells and whistles. All i had been looking for was a way to see a player's character name in guild chat. Something much more simple than this...

The amount of figuring out how to make this thing work, has scared me away. Delete this, don't delete that, i'm not a coder... This seems like an addon for a coder who understands what they are doing.

It's just that kind of quality of life improvement, no big deal.
If you can make a note of that and add it whenever you have time, it'll be perfectly fine.

There is no default value for that no, the default value used (if missing in the SV, or missing for the guildId) is 2 "Char name". These are default value for the Savedvariables, if your setting is missing (at a fresh install of pChat e.g.). These SV do not reset if you leave a guild so the format chosen for your guild will be kept if you rejoin the same guild.
But for new guildIds which never were saved it will use the value 2.

You can change that to your likes here:

File Settings.lua, table
This will be filled with the default format 2 for guilds further down at line 395 -> db.formatguild[guildId] = 2
Code:
db.formatguild = db.formatguild or {}
			if db.formatguild[guildId] == nil then
				-- 2 is default value
				db.formatguild[guildId] = 2
			end
2= Char, 3 = Char@UserID, 4 = @UserID/Char

Maybe I can add some default for new guilds some day, but currently I'm too busy to do that.

No I cannot change this as it's saved by the guild Index and not the guild name because of technical reasons.
But you can re order the guilds via this addon e.g.:

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Augment Number of Lines Displayed in Chat

Provs Boot Monitor isn't the cause, it just checks for each addon loaded and writes an output at a later place.
It does not alter anthing on chat methods so no, it is not the cause.
You can strip that btw it's of no use. Better use LibDebugLogger and DebugLogViewer addons if you need the loaded addon info etc.

It must be any addon altering chat stuff or disabling pChat's functions.

I bet it's either one of these "over all UI change addons" like BanditsUI etc. or any chat related one (preferably older chat addons, not updated recently).
I think the issue is with "Prov's Boot Monitor" (PBM) itself. For whatever reason, it's output is always first (and truncated), then pChat flagged history messages (never including PBM in history), then current messages. In my final testing, i had the partial PBM list, history text (which included multiple pledge lists for each log in/out between changes; plus my 1-500 messages), and current messages. Perhaps I've crossed a threshold of addons PBM can process/output, or maybe there is some kind of ESO limitation on the message size the addon is putting forward (I suspect it may be a wall of "new line" text and not individual messages), or maybe PBM's lack of updates have made it incompatible with current ESO clients... Either way, time to uninstall PBM.

I do have Hoft's "Chat Tab Selector" installed (the only other chat addon I could find), but not enabled in the BanditUI's settings. I tested that way and with the addon itself disabled, and the behaviour was consistent. (on my uninstall list since I don't use/need it)

I think I made some assumptions along the way that made me think pChat was doing the truncating, but obviously further testing has proven it's not, and the PBM issue looks much clearer now. Apologies for the false alarm, and thanks for walking me through the discovery.

I disabled every addon and library except pchat, it's dependencies, and the couple optional libraries I had installed for pchat... logged in, transported home, and spent 15 min typing 1-500 in /say... and of course everything worked as it should.

I'm going to put a magnifying glass on every chat related library/addon I have to see what disabling them does.

Thanks for the feedback, obviously not a pchat issue.

Re: Re: Re: Augment Number of Lines Displayed in Chat

As you said your self you are using a lot of addons.
Did you do what was written in the "please read before.." and disabled ALL other addons and libraries and tried if it works fine with all of them, except pchat and needed libraries, disabled? Is it working then as expected?
-> It does not matter then what Minion has updated and what other addons you are using, as long as you are using the newest version of pChat and the libraries needed for it.

That's always the simplest thing to do and test first, on your end. If this is the case and it works: Your other addons are the cause and you need to find out yourself which one causes it by re-enabling the others one after another and testing it. Maybe start with other chat related addons.
Addon Selector can help to build profiles so you know what you had enabled as the error happened, and are able to disable some as a block with the SHIFT key pressed.

If with all other addons disabled the bug is reproducable, then please tell me in steps from login to the error message how to rebuild it. Guess it needs some time to build 200+ chat lines, so perhaps you can force to happen by posting yourself a lot of "say" chat messages in your home e.g.
You can logout, send me your SavedVariables files pChat.lua from live/SavedVariables folder then to [email protected], together with the information which server you were playing on, @account you were playing on, date and time as it happens. Feel free to replace all occurences of your @account with a dummy like @myAcount to anonymize it in that file.
I can test it with your settings on your server then. Else it's only a wild guess of your settings and I can hardly rebuild them 1:1 to test exactly with stuff that might only occur with the same settings in pChat ;-)
-> Except for if you have logegd out, deleted the pChat.lua SV file and used the default settings of pChat after login. I can do the same test with default pChat settings here.

History btw. is only restored to a maximum of 24hours so if you expected to see 200+ lines of history from 2 days ago, nope

Thanks for the additonal info.

Sorry but why are bug reports since weeks NOT following the rules that were mentioned AND written above in the "sticky post" (1st comment at this website!) with the very obvious named text
!READ THIS FIRST PLEASE, BEFORE SENDING NEW BUGs!
The additional information I can provide is:
  1. There are no LUA errors, making it impossible to know when the issue started (or what version), if there was another addon that was updated around the same time, if there was a new addon introduced around the same time, or if it was related to an ESO client update.
  2. I use minion to install and keep all my addons up to date
  3. The only reason I noticed the issue was that I had scrolled up my chat list to get a reminder of the addon's name I was using to report addon load times (Provisions Boot Monitor) and found that the list was truncated (it added to the initial "pledges" list, MM statuses, and initial incoming messages).
  4. I wouldn't be surprised if the addons/libraries I have installed is >= 200 (MM i think exceeds 20 entries on its own). Every client update, I suspend any addons that throw LUA errors, and re-enable/replace them over time until I'm back at the desired functionality.
  5. Initially for troubleshooting I wacked the lua settings file, noticed the default was to enable the 1000 line mode, that the chat list was already truncated, and each additional message kept cutting a message off the top
  6. I then decided to try disable pChat to compare it to default chat... the message list was similarly truncated as expected
  7. With pchat re-enabed, I thought I'd try a simple /reloadui to see if the issue was an "initial sequence loading" issue; that 1000 messages mode wasn't enabled right away... but the /refreshui didn't come back with an additive list... meaning that all the previous text was pushed beyond the 200 limit, leaving me with a fresh 200 message truncated list.
  8. I also thought I'd try with the option reversed and unchecked it... but same 200 message limit behaviour, also with a /reloadui as above.

Perhaps I'm the only one who scrolls through a message list that's over 200 messages? If I am alone in the 1,000 message augmentation issue or validation of the options function isn't doable with the above information, then I will accept it as not functional for my feature use case / addon collection and simply add in to my replace list. No fuss, no muss.
