Known Issues :
-Do not use a keybind that uses Alt. For example, Alt+Shift+x, Alt+Ctrl+x, all keybinds without Alt are good.
-If you get an error message first read and apply the information from above, written below the headline
After updating pChat please be sure to check the subfolder "lib" is not there anymore. If it is still there: Delete it!

Any problems : Please let me know with a comment or a PM.
Please read the sticky comment (first comment) before posting a bug!

Important information:
Chat addons cannot work properly if the CrownStore is open! This is due to ZOs restrictions to protect the crown store against changes via addons and affects the chat as well.

Other chat addons
FCOChatTabBrain: Auto switch multiple chat tabs upon incoming messges, remember last chat channel at each tab, automatically change chat channels to last incoming one upon pressing <chat start> (RETURN) key, redirect whisper messages, play sound notifications on messages (keywords, friends, group, leaders, guilds), auto switch to group, and many more features.

If your chat addon needs to be compatible with pChat
The CHAT_ROUTER:RegisterMessageFormatter only allows 1 function for each EVENT_CHAT_* callback function!
If you assign it new you'll overwrite exisitng ones!
So ALWAYS please check if any other chat addon is enabled, add these other known chat addons to your manifest txt ## OptionalDependsOn: list so the other addons load before your addon, and afterwards "post hook", or manually post hook, the other message formatter callback function -> See example for pChat below.
ATENTION: pChat uses the EVENT_PLAYER_ACTIVATED callback to register the message formatters! If you want to post hook it you MUST do that after your own EVENT_PLAYER_ACTIVATED callback! Using EVENT_ADD_ON_LOADED will make pChat overwrite your callback function again (and it's no good to use EVENT_ADD_ON_LOADED here as the chat is ready first after first called EVENT_PLAYER_ACTIVATED)!

Example code for your EVENT_PLAYER_ACTIVATED callback function, for the chat message formatter of EVENT_CHAT_MESSAGE_CHANNEL
Lua Code:
  1. local function myChatHandlersMessageChannelReceiver(channelID, from, text, isCustomerService, fromDisplayName)
  2.         --your chat EVENT_CHAT_MESSAGE_CHANNEL callback function
  3.     end
  4.     --For the example OR - Wrapper function for the existing EVENT_CHAT_MESSAGE_CHANNEL callbackFunction
  5.     local function myOnChatMessageChannelWrapper(messageText)
  6.        local messageTextNew = messageText
  7.        --Do whatever you need with the messageText passed in from original function
  8.        return messageTextNew
  9.     end
  10.
  11.
  12.     if pChat == nil then
  13.         --pChat is not loaded: Add your own handler to the CHAT_ROUTER
  14.         --I'd always check if any other chat addon is active though and maybe thus always add the code below, even if pChat is not loaded
  15.         --as it will keep exisitng callback functions of other addons or event add to the original vanilla chat formatter callback function
  16.         CHAT_ROUTER:RegisterMessageFormatter(EVENT_CHAT_MESSAGE_CHANNEL, myChatHandlersMessageChannelReceiver)
  17.     else
  18.         --pChat is loaded
  19.         --!!!ATTENTION!!!
  20.         --Do the following at EVENT_PLAYER_ACTIVATED after pChat has set CHAT_ROUTER:RegisterMessageFormatter(EVENT_CHAT_MESSAGE_CHANNEL, pChatChatHandlersMessageChannelReceiver)
  21.         --Get all chat formatters. Table formatters will contain the different chat event entries, like EVENT_CHAT_MESSAGE_CHANNEL now
  22.         local formatters = CHAT_ROUTER:GetRegisteredMessageFormatters()
  23.         --Get the chat callback function for EVENT_CHAT_MESSAGE_CHANNEL of pChat
  24.         local originalpChatFormatter = formatters[EVENT_CHAT_MESSAGE_CHANNEL]
  25.         if originalpChatFormatter then
  26.
  27.            --Either:
  28.             --Post Hook pChat's EVENT_CHAT_MESSAGE_CHANNEL callbackFunction by re-applying the own handler function
  29.             --which first calls pChat's function, and then your own code
  30.             CHAT_ROUTER:RegisterMessageFormatter(EVENT_CHAT_MESSAGE_CHANNEL, function(...)
  31.                 local messageTextOfpChatHandler = originalpChatFormatter(...)
  32.                 --Do something with messageTextOfpChatHandler if you need to
  33.                 return myChatHandlersMessageChannelReceiver(...)
  34.             end)
  35.
  36.           --Or:
  37.           --As the callback function of EVENT_CHAT_MESSAGE_CHANNEL returns  Instead of a manual posthook your could also define your own "wrapper" function around the original function
  38.           CHAT_ROUTER:RegisterMessageFormatter(EVENT_CHAT_MESSAGE_CHANNEL , function(...)
  39.                     return myOnChatMessageChannelWrapper(originalpChatFormatter (...))
  40.                 end)
  41.
  42.         end
  43.     end

## v10.0.2.0 ## 2021-06-19
-Changed the SavedVariables to Server dependent ones: Means NA and EU server will save different settings and histories now.
Your current "non-server dependent" settings will be automatically copied to the server you login (NA, EU, PTS).
On-screen and chat messages, as well as LibDebugLogger messages (in the DebugLogViewer UI if you use this) will show you what was migrated and as it finished (2 automatic reloadUIs should happen during the migration process).

Attention: You are able to delete the non-server dependent (old) SavedVariables, to clean up the SV file s ize and increase the loading times, by using the chat slag command /pchatdeleteoldsv
BUT: Do NOT use this command before having logged in to ALL of the servers you play on! These non-server dependent settings are used as the copy base for the different servers. Copying SV from e.g. server NA to EU is not possible! So FIRST login to each server you play on, enable pChat and the dependencies, watch the screen for the migration messages and the reloaduis until it says finished.
After having migrated all servers you can use the slash command to delete the old SV file contents.

## v10.0.0.3 ##
After some users were not able to find the name format dropdown boxes for guilds and groups in the chat channel submenus, and thought the name format setting in the chat message submenu would apply to all chat messages:
Changed the settings so that the "name format" dropdown boxes for guild and group are also shown (duplicate) in the "message options"->"names in messages" submenu.

Hopefully the "bug reports" stop now as you will find them all at one spot :-)

## v10.0.0.1 ##

Attention: If you got the addon "DebugLogViewer" enabled the debug messages of addons will be ONLY shown in the DebugLogViewer UI/Quicklog UI, and NOT in the normal chat anymore! This is normal and an intended behaviour.
-Chat tab switch to default chat tab, after login

Added:
-Settings to enable/disable the chat format handlers (colors, timestamps, names, etc.).
You can find these settings as new submenu inside the "Message settings" submenu.
The following chat handlers can be enable/disabled:
  • System messages
  • Group left
  • Group type change
  • Friends list online status
  • Ignore list added
  • Ignore list removed
Standard setting value is: Enabled
You can use them to disable the chat formatters for e.g. online status and thus fix problems with other addons like "No Thank You".
You MUST reload the UI to change these settings so be sure to do so after changing the checkboxe values.

Nothing was changed at these settings or anywhere near there.

Your error/bug report was unfortunately not providing enough information,
or I was not able to reprocuce it with your information given.

Please click the link below (internal forum link),
read it (especially the section "How to report a lua error message/a bug to the developers", and "LibDebugLogger and DebugLogViewer")
and report the error/bug with the described detail as comment here, or private message to me, again.

Thanks for your support.

Conflicting Addon

SupressErrorMessage addon by Naeramarth - conflicts with the updated pChat.

I did a thorough testing of all addons i had, this was the only one that conflicted the pChat so it wouldn't override eso's default chat settings.

Thanks for the info but what do you mean in detail by "conflicting"?
What is not working or wrong as both addons are active?

Edit:
The addon https://www.esoui.com/downloads/info1486-SuppressErrorMessage.html and the other one with the same name are both old, not to be used and in the discontinued and outdated section!
So please deinstall it and do not use it anymore as the addon dev has written in the description.
I'm not going to invest time to check what is causing any problems here, if the addons are clearly stated as "OLD" and "NOT TO BE USED ANYMORE"!
Thanks for your understanding.

btw: Supressing error messages in general is nothing one should do.
Report the error messages to the addon devs so they can fix the errors, like described here:
https://www.esoui.com/forums/showthread.php?p=39721

Install LibDebugLogger and DebugLogViewer addons maybe to redirtect the error messages into the DebugLogViewer UI -> This way you can even collect and send them to the developers as described in the link above.

Maybe I'm just being crazy from staying up too long....but.

Didn't pChat use to do Character Name@UserID while in Cyrodiil?

It's still set to do that, but everyone typing is just their Character Name.

EDIT:

Mkay, something's up. Even in the overworld it's not showing the UserID at all...even when I pick just that option. Just keeps showing the character name.

EDIT2:

UserID was working sometime around the start of Greymoor. Been a bit busy so just logging in to collect daily reward.

Pretty simple and always the same... Test without other addons and provide infos that your libraries and addons are all updated or we are not able to help you. Just read the link info about "how to report bugs" and support us, or we cannot support you properly.
There are way too many addons interfering meanwhile, especially if it's about the "chat", and we cannot know nor support all together.
Thanks for your understanding

Actually...I found it by accident because I noticed it wasn't in Minion anymore. This was after looking at the list of addons and pruning so I could figure out why pChat wasn't working; it worked after disabling all but a few key addons.

I know..I know..."read the pinned post". I didn't know it was updated. :P

Plus, I had had both running together without issue. But that was awhile ago.

Arrow pChat 10.0.0.3 System Error Messages

With only pChat and the libraries on which it depends loaded, the game client displays the following messages (in the order they appear below) immediately after the character is loaded and shown on the HUD:

Cannot use existing built-in switch 'g/2'
Cannot use existing built-in switch 'g/3'
Cannot use existing built-in switch 'g/4'
Cannot use existing built-in switch 'g/5'

This does not happen with the previous version pChat baertram 9.4.1.4 ZOs_fixed_chatHandlers.

When other add-ons and the libraries upon which they depend are also loaded, the message about 'g/5' is always displayed, and often the message about 'g/4' is also displayed. The message about 'g/3' is only displayed when only pChat and its libraries are loaded.

In other words, if some other add-on(s) and/or libraries are loaded, then one or more of the 4 messages will not be displayed. They are all displayed when only pChat and its libraries are loaded, and I do not intend to determine which other add-ons or libraries "suppress" the error messages.

FYI, I use only 3 add-ons which affect the Chat feature: pChat, Chat Window Manager, and Dogulbon's Guid Reorder. Disabling Chat Window Manager and/or Dolugubon's Guild Reorder does not affect whether any error messages are displayed.

Note: LibMainMenu is outdated. Also, when the above messages are displayed, pChat becomes unusable. So I have re-installed version 9.4.1.4 to regain use of the Chat feature.

Re: pChat 10.0.0.3 System Error Messages

Thanks Shadowshire.
The text is a constant from the en.lua file and used in file HelperFunctions.lua file as the custom channel switches you have defined are
created after login. If you have chosen something like /g2 or /g1 which is ESO standard and cannot be re-used to "fast switch" the channel to your guild, it will show an ZO_Alert after login.

Like this is for guild 1 the standard coming from ZO_ChatSystem_GetChannelInfo(): /guild1 /g1 /gilde1

Do you really use g/2 and g/3 etc. as custom guild channel switches?
Please enable the DebugLogViewer, go to it's settings and enable the "Debug" depth for the log.
Then reloadui and check for a line like this in the DebugLogViewer UI:
pChat AddCustomChannelSwitches-channelId: <channelId>; switchesToAdd: <string>
What is written as switchesToAdd: <string> as the error message happens?
It should be a string like your defined custom channel switch e.g. "g/2"
If you have setup multiple custom channel switches in the same editbox they need to be seperated with a space!
So this works:
"g/2 gi2"

I'll see why the G/2 etc. counts as "ESO standard" switch. Maybe a regex is detecting them wrong.

Edit:
I've just changed mine on the NA server to g/1 and it works without error message.
Please check what exactly is defined in your quick chat channel switches! Maybe check the SavedVariable files.
Tried other combinations and the only version where it fails and shows the error messages is if I really re-use existing ESO standard switches like /g2 or /guild2 etc.

But even then my game will not break and pChat is still working

Are you sure you are using standard libraries, updated to the newest version, and have not changed them in any ways for other addons?
I'm not able to rebuild the problem so far
Note: LibMainMenu is outdated
Yes, like a lot other libs and addons are, but they work properly. It's only the txt file->## ApiVersion number check, that's all. No need to update for only this stupid reason.

@Baertram, love the addon and all that you provide. Can you add an extra option just below the Chat Font choice to add the choice of what style to use, like thick-outline, soft-shadow-thin, soft-shadow-thick, etc?

Hello,

Ever since the most recent server maintenance and pChat update the addon no longer provides time stamps and now uses the same colors for names and text whereas before they were different.

Below is an image of the error message I received when trying to adjust settings in the addon

Sorry, no.
Too complicated all works properly, and I have not planend to add new features to this addon, but just want to keep it alive and running.

As the (as it seems still too small) good visible light blue text at the first sticky post here (which you definately see as you open the comments section) tells you: !READ THIS FIRST PLEASE, BEFORE SENDING NEW BUGs!

If you send in a comment about an error message or found bug, please always include the following information:
Read this first: [Troubleshooting AddOn install/find & reporting errors]
Especially the sections "lua error messages" and "How to report a lua error message/a bug to the developers
You did not provide the information mentioned in these sections so I won't waste my time trying to find a bug which does not happen for myself or anyone else so far. Sorry. You can't imagine how many users ask for help and I always have to tell the same. So I wrote this long texts to provide help for your own! I'm not going to lead your hand anymore for each user asking as I do not get paid for all the time I inverst here at all.
If you are lazy and want to get the work done by someone else: Forget it.
If you already have read and do not understand: Tell me in advance, what was done and was not understood. Then you will get help "on that point".
So you are the first one to find out yourself now please (at least that I know off), and sorry it has hit you

Follow the description there and provide me the info I have asked for and I might be able to help.
Else: I won't be able to help.

Hint: other addons MIGHT CAUSE the bug, or you have not updated your libraries properly. Try to reinstall pChat AND the needed libraries, but logout first!
Perhaps also check the sticky post for the section "Known incompatibilities".

pChat seems to be deactivated. I have the normal chat window of ESO.
This problem occurs since I have updated my addons some weeks ago. Before it, there was no problem and with the same addons installed.
I tried to reinstall pchat without success. What could I do?
