World Event Alert (aka Dragon Alert)  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)
Version: 1.4.2
by: Enodoc [More]
Notifications for Elsweyr Dragons, Harrowstorms, Dark Anchors, Abyssal Geysers and Volcanic Vents!

Features
  • Popup notification when a dragon spawns in Elsweyr (as long as you are also in Elsweyr)
  • Popup notification when a harrowstorm spawns in Western Skyrim, the Reach and Blackreach
  • Popup notification when a Dark Anchor spawns in any base game zone
  • Popup notification when an Abyssal Geyser spawns in Summerset
  • Popup notification when a Volcanic Vent spawns in High Isle and Amenos

Note that this add-on does not work for other world events (Oblivion Portals) because they do not trigger the World Event activator.

Known Issues
  • Volcanic Vents trigger the alert twice. This is a game API error, not an error with the add-on.

Requirements
Version 1.4.2
  • Added support for Galen Volcanic Vents. Thanks to Anceane for getting the location IDs!
  • Updated API version to 101036 (Firesong)
  • Known Issue: Volcanic Vents trigger the alert twice. This is a game API error, not an error with the add-on.

Version 1.4.1
  • Fixed extraneous "Unknown" alerts in Elsweyr

Version 1.4.0
  • Added support for Volcanic Vents
  • Updated API version to 101034 (High Isle)

Version 1.3.2
  • Added Notification, Silent and Chat toggles to the Settings menu

Version 1.3.1
  • Fixed some typos

Version 1.3.0
  • Added support for Dark Anchors
  • Added support for Abyssal Geysers
  • Added config menu - requires LibAddonMenu
  • Updated API version to 101032 (Deadlands) / 101033 (Ascending Tide)

Version 1.2.1
  • Fixed Waking Flame API version (101031)

Version 1.2.0
  • Added support for Harrowstorms

Version 1.1.5
  • Removed some leftover debugging that was appearing in chat
  • Updated API version to 100035 (Blackwood) / 100036 (Waking Flame)

Version 1.1.4
  • Updated API version to 100033 (Markarth)

Version 1.1.3
  • Updated API version to 100032 (Stonethorn)

Version 1.1.2
  • Updated API version to 100031 (Greymoor)
    • Note that this add-on unfortunately doesn't work for Greymoor's Harrowstorm world events, as they do not trigger the World Event activator.

Version 1.1.1
  • Updated API version to 100030 (Harrowstorm)

Version 1.1.0
  • Added Southern Elsweyr dragons
  • Updated API version to 100029 (Dragonhold)

  • Moved all text to en language file to support localization

Harrowstorms

The strange dragon alerts popping up in the Reach and Western Skyrim were indeed due to Harrowstorms, so I have now added full support for all Harrowstorms.

Does this addon have any customisation options or is it an "all or nothing" type mod that does exactly what it says on the tin, nothing more, nothing less?

There is an option for each alert to be on OFF

Yeah the only customisation at the moment is just On or Off for each type of alert, plus a chat command toggle for output in Chat.

What else are you looking for? It may be something I can add, if I can work out how to do it.

Thanks. I gave this addon a try this morning, just thought I'd mention that the way you toggle output to chat via /worldevents chat is not documented anywhere on the Addon info page or in the addon itself. I had to find the commmand in the changelog page when it was added. Might want to consider adding something just to make it a little more clear to less-experienced addon users how to toggle it, as it's not very clear. Or even a toggle option for each type of event in settings so that it's easy to change.

Once toggled to chat I would like the world event popup and the drumbeat sound effect to be suppressed, if possible, as I don't see the need for both popup and chat at the same time. The popup one can be quite "intrusive" whereas the chat version is subtle and preferable.

Oh, please... let's give the authors here a little credit - what you're saying comes down to the competence of the author and whether the API supports doing certain things easily, and there are far, far more complicated addons on this site that do way more than a triggered popup on screen. Bugs are the result of poor coding and/or poor testing before release, not extending its functionality, bugs are not guaranteed "each time". For a mod like this it only a 2-option affair:

if display_notify = true
do popup with sound
else print to chat

A few checkboxes which determine whether a world event notification is flashed on screen with the default sound OR just printed silently in the chat box is nowhere as complicated as a mod that redesigns the entire UI or allows a user to teleport anywhere, and most of those mods work fine.

Should add, I coded extensively in the past with PHP/SQL, not LUA, but am familiar with the process of procedural coding and what is required to make sure the code works. I seldom make requests that are complicated or that require a rewrite of the whole script, but at the same time I am not familiar with how much flexibility the API offers to allow authors to modify how things work in ESO, so might make requests that turn out to require more work than I expected.

Let's be honest - he asked if he could do anything to help, I responded, and you seemed to want to cut me down for wanting a less intrusive variation of the same mod requiring a few extra on/off checkboxes at most. I'm not sure why you reacted like such a request threatened your ability to use the mod should it be updated. #CTFO

I wasn't jumping on you, btw, just responding frankly, I am very direct sometimes, even if it seems blunt, which is not uncivil, just to the point. Don't infer what doesn't exist. You didn't need to respond, since the request was not for you and improving the mod in no way harms you, if anything I'd say that you were being selfish by trying to persuade an author to ignore requests based on speculation that it "might break". Or maybe that wasn't your intention even though it seemed so to me? Regardless, I already stated why I can't code it - I don't know Lua or the ESO API, but I do know the methods are not that complex since PHP and Lua use similar coding practices. Learning a new scripting language takes time and practice before you can even attempt to learn a poorly-documented API.

Btw, a fallacy in your logic: just because "some" authors are burned out does not mean "all" are - people have different tolerances and free time available to handle such things - been there when I used to write mods for phpBB software years ago. Again, don't infer what doesn't exist. Most of the authors who are burned out likely have lots of mods to maintain and/or mods that conflict with other mods, causing complications in the code and higher chances of bugs. This mod does a simple task and since no-one else has a mod doing anything similar it is not likely to require high-maintenance in the long-term to keep it working, unless ZOS do something dramatic to affect it.

@Enodoc Cheers for the new update. Am just trying it out now, but it seems to be working great. Also using your Quest Journal addon, very useful for seeing what side-quests are available. 2813 quests... fml...

High Isle Update Coming?

I believe this is not working for the Volcanic Vents on the High Isles.

Since the last update, the add-on spams "Incursion started at unknown location" when in Elsweyr on a pretty regular basis in addition to the actual dragon announcements.

Oops

Edit: 1.4.1 should sort that - let me know if it keeps happening!
