Known Issues :
-Do not use a keybind that uses Alt. For example, Alt+Shift+x, Alt+Ctrl+x, all keybinds without Alt are good.
-If you get an error message first read and apply the information from above, written below the headline
After updating pChat please be sure to check the subfolder "lib" is not there anymore. If it is still there: Delete it!

Any problems : Please let me know with a comment or a PM.
Please read the sticky comment (first comment) before posting a bug!

Important information:
Chat addons cannot work properly if the CrownStore is open! This is due to ZOs restrictions to protect the crown store against changes via addons and affects the chat as well.

Other chat addons
FCOChatTabBrain: Auto switch multiple chat tabs upon incoming messges, remember last chat channel at each tab, automatically change chat channels to last incoming one upon pressing <chat start> (RETURN) key, redirect whisper messages, play sound notifications on messages (keywords, friends, group, leaders, guilds), auto switch to group, and many more features.

If your chat addon needs to be compatible with pChat
The CHAT_ROUTER:RegisterMessageFormatter only allows 1 function for each EVENT_CHAT_* callback function!
If you assign it new you'll overwrite exisitng ones!
So ALWAYS please check if any other chat addon is enabled, add these other known chat addons to your manifest txt ## OptionalDependsOn: list so the other addons load before your addon, and afterwards "post hook", or manually post hook, the other message formatter callback function -> See example for pChat below.
ATENTION: pChat uses the EVENT_PLAYER_ACTIVATED callback to register the message formatters! If you want to post hook it you MUST do that after your own EVENT_PLAYER_ACTIVATED callback! Using EVENT_ADD_ON_LOADED will make pChat overwrite your callback function again (and it's no good to use EVENT_ADD_ON_LOADED here as the chat is ready first after first called EVENT_PLAYER_ACTIVATED)!

Example code for your EVENT_PLAYER_ACTIVATED callback function, for the chat message formatter of EVENT_CHAT_MESSAGE_CHANNEL
Lua Code:
  1. local function myChatHandlersMessageChannelReceiver(channelID, from, text, isCustomerService, fromDisplayName)
  2.         --your chat EVENT_CHAT_MESSAGE_CHANNEL callback function
  3.     end
  4.     --For the example OR - Wrapper function for the existing EVENT_CHAT_MESSAGE_CHANNEL callbackFunction
  5.     local function myOnChatMessageChannelWrapper(messageText)
  6.        local messageTextNew = messageText
  7.        --Do whatever you need with the messageText passed in from original function
  8.        return messageTextNew
  9.     end
  10.
  11.
  12.     if pChat == nil then
  13.         --pChat is not loaded: Add your own handler to the CHAT_ROUTER
  14.         --I'd always check if any other chat addon is active though and maybe thus always add the code below, even if pChat is not loaded
  15.         --as it will keep exisitng callback functions of other addons or event add to the original vanilla chat formatter callback function
  16.         CHAT_ROUTER:RegisterMessageFormatter(EVENT_CHAT_MESSAGE_CHANNEL, myChatHandlersMessageChannelReceiver)
  17.     else
  18.         --pChat is loaded
  19.         --!!!ATTENTION!!!
  20.         --Do the following at EVENT_PLAYER_ACTIVATED after pChat has set CHAT_ROUTER:RegisterMessageFormatter(EVENT_CHAT_MESSAGE_CHANNEL, pChatChatHandlersMessageChannelReceiver)
  21.         --Get all chat formatters. Table formatters will contain the different chat event entries, like EVENT_CHAT_MESSAGE_CHANNEL now
  22.         local formatters = CHAT_ROUTER:GetRegisteredMessageFormatters()
  23.         --Get the chat callback function for EVENT_CHAT_MESSAGE_CHANNEL of pChat
  24.         local originalpChatFormatter = formatters[EVENT_CHAT_MESSAGE_CHANNEL]
  25.         if originalpChatFormatter then
  26.
  27.            --Either:
  28.             --Post Hook pChat's EVENT_CHAT_MESSAGE_CHANNEL callbackFunction by re-applying the own handler function
  29.             --which first calls pChat's function, and then your own code
  30.             CHAT_ROUTER:RegisterMessageFormatter(EVENT_CHAT_MESSAGE_CHANNEL, function(...)
  31.                 local messageTextOfpChatHandler = originalpChatFormatter(...)
  32.                 --Do something with messageTextOfpChatHandler if you need to
  33.                 return myChatHandlersMessageChannelReceiver(...)
  34.             end)
  35.
  36.           --Or:
  37.           --As the callback function of EVENT_CHAT_MESSAGE_CHANNEL returns  Instead of a manual posthook your could also define your own "wrapper" function around the original function
  38.           CHAT_ROUTER:RegisterMessageFormatter(EVENT_CHAT_MESSAGE_CHANNEL , function(...)
  39.                     return myOnChatMessageChannelWrapper(originalpChatFormatter (...))
  40.                 end)
  41.
  42.         end
  43.     end

## v10.0.2.0 ## 2021-06-19
-Changed the SavedVariables to Server dependent ones: Means NA and EU server will save different settings and histories now.
Your current "non-server dependent" settings will be automatically copied to the server you login (NA, EU, PTS).
On-screen and chat messages, as well as LibDebugLogger messages (in the DebugLogViewer UI if you use this) will show you what was migrated and as it finished (2 automatic reloadUIs should happen during the migration process).

Attention: You are able to delete the non-server dependent (old) SavedVariables, to clean up the SV file s ize and increase the loading times, by using the chat slag command /pchatdeleteoldsv
BUT: Do NOT use this command before having logged in to ALL of the servers you play on! These non-server dependent settings are used as the copy base for the different servers. Copying SV from e.g. server NA to EU is not possible! So FIRST login to each server you play on, enable pChat and the dependencies, watch the screen for the migration messages and the reloaduis until it says finished.
After having migrated all servers you can use the slash command to delete the old SV file contents.

## v10.0.0.3 ##
After some users were not able to find the name format dropdown boxes for guilds and groups in the chat channel submenus, and thought the name format setting in the chat message submenu would apply to all chat messages:
Changed the settings so that the "name format" dropdown boxes for guild and group are also shown (duplicate) in the "message options"->"names in messages" submenu.

Hopefully the "bug reports" stop now as you will find them all at one spot :-)

## v10.0.0.1 ##

Attention: If you got the addon "DebugLogViewer" enabled the debug messages of addons will be ONLY shown in the DebugLogViewer UI/Quicklog UI, and NOT in the normal chat anymore! This is normal and an intended behaviour.
-Chat tab switch to default chat tab, after login

Added:
-Settings to enable/disable the chat format handlers (colors, timestamps, names, etc.).
You can find these settings as new submenu inside the "Message settings" submenu.
The following chat handlers can be enable/disabled:
  • System messages
  • Group left
  • Group type change
  • Friends list online status
  • Ignore list added
  • Ignore list removed
Standard setting value is: Enabled
You can use them to disable the chat formatters for e.g. online status and thus fix problems with other addons like "No Thank You".
You MUST reload the UI to change these settings so be sure to do so after changing the checkboxe values.

No problem, I'm relieved it's not a bug
Thanks for the kind words.

LMAO! I'm so retarded. I didn't open the submenu.. I was blind and saw only "Chat channels" but didn't open "Guild Tweaks" inside it, nor the guild names.. bahahah. Sorry to bother you XD Thanks for the lovely support however, and thank you for keeping the addon alive! Can't imagine ESO without it.

question about timestamp

THANK YOU for this addon, I was desperate for my timestamps in chat. I got all my settings up and going alright, however I noticed that timestamps are only in my main chat tab (npc, players etc). I have a second tab that outputs gathering items, exp gained, progress on achievements etc that comes from EchoExperience here on ESOUI. That tab is not getting any timestamps - is it possible to do that, so I can track timing on loot and achievements etc in that tab? Am I missing an option somewhere?

Thank you!

Please right click the chat tab where the EchoExperience messages appear and chosoe "Properties", or "Settings".
MAke a screenshot or tell me which of all the "chat channels" are enabled there.
Is only the "System" or "Sys" chat channel checkbox checked? (this chebox is only visible if pChat is enabled btw!).

Do other messages in that chat tab get a system message?

Pleas enter this into the chat edit box, having the chat tab where EchoExperience writes it's information to activated:
Code:
/code d("Test for pChat!")
then press the RETURN key and you should see the message Test for pChat! in your chat tab where the SYSTEM or SYS checkbox was activated.
A timestamp should be shown there as well then.

If not:
Please disable ALL addons except pChat and the needed libraries and try the same chat message again. Is it shown then?
If not: Is LibDebugLogger activated?
And DebugLogViewer installed? If so: Is the chat message shown in the DebugLogViewer quicklog/log UI? You are able to open it from the LAM settings menu -> DebugLogViewer.

If DebugLogViewer is not installed but LibDebugLogger:
Deactivate LibDebugLogger, reload the UI.
Try the chat message again like described above. Do you see it now in the chat and is there a timestamp?

The problem is that many addons together could bring problems and thus you always need to check with ONLY pChat enabled first if your desired result works then, like described in the first "sticky" post. I reocmmand reading it and following the section "How to report bugs".
This will help me, if you proide the LibDebugLogger file, tell me date and time as the chat output happens and example texts what is shown WITHOUT a timestamp and what is shown WITH a timestamp. Thanks

Bug/Error Report:
Time: 5:27-5:30AM EST
Issue: Output from EchoExperience not gaining timestamps
LUA Error: None
Path to recreate: Login, gather item, kill mob, check chat tab assigned in EchoExperience
Addons and libraries Updated as of yesterday (9/30/20)

I entered items into SAY and GUILD (enabled for this test in my INFO tab) and got timestamps.
I entered the "/code d("Test for pChat!")" into say and guild, and got "Invalid Command" pop up in white on my screen, which then faded.

Re: Re: Re: question about timestamp

Oh my bad, sorry.

It's not /code but /script!

"/script d("Test for pChat!")"

Did you right click the INFO tab->Properties, and checked if the "System" or "Sys" message checkbox is activated, or which ones are actiavted at this tab?

Okay script worked, outputted text with the timestamp. EchoExperience still has no timestamp.
my INFO tab currently has the System chat type checked on (with Say and G1 temporarily enabled for this test).

Well, if d() shows the timestamp but the addon isn't, it's the addon using some output method does not run through pChat and add the timestamp then).
I cannot do anything about it, the other addon dev would need to check this please and change the output.

Maybe it's also a problem added as ZOs changed the chat handlers etc. and could not be fixed at the moment.

I guess, as you choose the chat tab where the output happens, the addon will justw rite text to that chat tab by any special coding. If he would use d() the chat messages would be shown at ALL tabs where the "System" or "Sys" message channel checkbox is enabled.
You can test this yourself by enabling the checkbox at 2 different chat tabs and if you do /script d("Test") it shows at all these chat tabs where you have enabled the checkbox for System.

But EchoExperience uses some other function then, maybe CHAT_SYSTEM:AddMessage or similar.
The author should check his code as CHAT_SYSTEM was changed to a CHAT_ROUTER some patches ago (by ZOs) and the functions now "use other ways to write to the chat". He can have a look here:
https://github.com/esoui/esoui/blob/master/esoui/ingame/chatsystem/chathandlers.lua#L260
and could try to use CHAT_ROUTER:AddSystemMessage or CHAT_ROUTER:AddDebugMessage for his output.
If he has changed any ChatMessageHandlers to achieve his goal, he most probably broke pChat's output this way for his text then, as chat handlers are currently "overwriting" each other.

Well, if d() shows the timestamp but the addon isn't, it's the addon using some output method then which is different and not using the chat's standard message output (which would run through pChat and add the timestamp then).
I cannot do anything about it, the other addon dev would need to check this please.
Okay thank you very much! I wasn't sure if it was an option I was missing from here or if it was from somewhere else. ^^

I am not sure if I am missing anything, but I vaguely remember (I haven't played for a loong time) it was possible to drag items into chat to create clickable links.
When I try to do that, the cursor changes into a miniature of given item, but clicking into chat iput doesn't do anything.
Is anything wrong?

Drag&drop didn't work with chat afaik, if so then only with addons (but not pChat ).
Right click the item and choose "To chat".

I'm sharing this error to the devs of both pChat and LibAddonMenu2.0 because I'm not sure which addon (if either) is causing the error. If neither have an idea, I'll share to the dev of Wykkyd's mods as well.

First, I believe pChat and/or LibMainMenu may be throwing this error because after uninstalling and reinstalling pChat and LMM (and only pChat and LMM) the error is only reproduced when pChat/LMM are installed - even though neither pChat or LMM are appearing in the error message. WykkydsEnhancedChat and LibAddonMenu 2.0 work fine UNLESS pChat/LMM are present. N'Tak is just the addon I used as the example to reproduce the error - I get the same error if I do the same in any other addon (PerfectPixel for example). The other issue is that when pChat/LMM are installed, several addons disappear completely from the addon settings menu - specifically Wykkyd's Enhanced Chat, Wykky's Toolbar, and Idle Animations. I originally suspected LibAddonMenu 2.0 was the problem but even after uninstalling that, reinstalling, etc. I still got these errors, until I uninstalled pChat. Then everything worked as normal.

I am using the latest versions of both pChat and LibAddonMenu2.0 downloaded from ESOUI (not minion), and am using LMM v8 (the version linked in LMM comment section). I don't have any of the addons pChat has listed as incompatible installed.

The latest testing was done 2020/10/20 at about 5:30pm.

How to reproduce: My best guess is to have Wykkyd's Enhanced Chat and Toolbar, IdleAnimations, LibAddonMenu2.0, pChat, and LMM installed since those seems to be the key addons affected. Go into the addons settings, and you should notice the pChat appears, but the wykkyd and IdleAnimations addons do not show up in the list. If you have another addon available (any should work), click on any option, like an on/off toggle, and that should throw the error.

Code:
user:/AddOns/wykkydsEnhancedChat/e/LAM/LibAddonMenu-2.0.lua:147: attempt to index a nil value
stack traceback:
user:/AddOns/wykkydsEnhancedChat/e/LAM/LibAddonMenu-2.0.lua:147: in function 'RefreshReloadUIButton'

user:/AddOns/wykkydsEnhancedChat/e/LAM/controls/checkbox.lua:111: in function '(anonymous)'
|caaaaaa<Locals> control = ud </Locals>|r
EDIT: Just tried installing TTC and am receiving the same exact error, so now I'm thinking it may not be pChat. But if you have any thoughts anyway that would be helpful as I am really confused on how any of these addons are related and what makes some work and others not...

Please read this as an example why this happens:
https://www.esoui.com/forums/showthread.php?t=9379

It's about another library LibGroupSocket but the idea is the same here:
Wykkyds addons still include old/outdated versions of LibAddonMenu-2.0 in a subfolder and these are loaded by the addon's txt file (always).
It uses 2.0 r26, always!
But we curerntly are at version 2.0 r31 already so you need to strip these old versions which are always loaded.

Please either stop usage of these old addons or force the devs to update them or delete the included libs/LibAddonMenu-2.0 (at best the total libs folder) subfolders and just install LibAddonMenu-2.0 into your live/AddOns folder as "standalone" version.

Always use the newest versions of the libs else you will get errors.

Edit:
I've added the version with the stripped library, and a fix to the call to LibAddonMenu-2.0 inside the included file LibWykkydFactory, in the addon comments. Feel free to test if this verison work for you (remember to download and install LAM 2.0 r31 to your live/AddOns folder!):

Thank you so much for your help with all this! Unfortunately the fix you uploaded for wykkyd's enhanced chat doesn't seem to be working either, it just doesn't even show up in addon settings (but there aren't any errors either). It's fine though, I was just using it for aesthetic reasons to get rid of the chat box's blurry edge, so it's not the end of the world. Really appreciate the explanation though, I think I'm starting to unravel the addon mess I'm in lol

user:/AddOns/pChat/pChat.lua:482: in function 'OnAddonLoaded'
|caaaaaa<Locals> _ = 65536, addonName = "pChat" </Locals>|r
I have so far updated every addon that was ready, including the last version of Pchat

Pchat is the only addon having a little problem. Though i am not certain if this is created more by the LibMainMenu lib or the addon itself.

I hope i did what is expected for reporting issue

Thank you
