Thank you for still offering this. As a responsible add-on user I check for updates via Minion more often than the authors update them, daily before launching ESO.

Oh my god that would be so nice.

Well, in his defense, the lib is called LibAnnyoingUpdateNotificationInGame (sic).

Annoy? Because it Shows a popup once every 2 weeks...
I personally get annoyed by users writing undetailed bug reports, using old addon versions, and wasting my free time.

Thanks for the writing Silvereys, I totaly agree.

So because a small amount of people can't keep their add-ons updated and complain about it to you, you have to annoy the much larger base that keeps them constantly updated. Great logic! I find it rather ironic that so many of the supporters of this lib are ones that can't keep their add-ons updated either, including the author of the lib!

Its good to see that there's authors on here that will stand up against abuse from add-on authors because they're on a power trip. Thanks, Silver!

That's really uncalled for. Me releasing this addon has nothing to do with resisting other addon authors. In fact, I have nothing but the highest respect for my friends that have chosen to bundle the addon reminders with their work.

Despite what you might think, the entire motivation for the addon reminders lib stems from the fact that these authors care very much about supporting their addons and their users.

Every time they see a bug report in the comments, they attempt to reproduce the issue and fix it. This can be very time consuming. It's extremely frustrating when the reported issues are false alarm caused by users not keeping their addons up to date. The larger the addon's user base, the more frequently this happens.

Professional software companies have customer support personnel that triage this sort of noise. As unpaid community developers, we have no such support structure. The addon update reminders are an attempt to automate at least part of the process that would usually be handled by customer support.

Personally, I find the reminders bothersome and unnecessary, since I update my addons regularly. However, I can't deny that the reminders probably do serve to cut down on the number of false bug reports, especially for those addons with a very large user base that includes a lot of casual players.

So as a compromise, I released this addon. It allows those that are mindful of addon updates to opt-out of the reminders, while still allowing the reminders to continue to provide their benefit of reducing false bug reports by default.

I hope that in the future, ZOS will provide some better API functionality so that the reminders can be targeted at only addons that have new versions on esoui.com, perhaps even providing an in-game list of which have updates, with links to their addon pages. I think that will cut down a lot of frustration surrounding the popups.

I'm waiting for the moment where ppl cry about non-working addons again because they forgot to update their addons (or other depending addons).

LAUNIG is such a good helper and it just is shown once every 2 weeks or so.
So please ppl, don't disable it and don't ignore it, or expect addon devs to get mad about you if you do not check your addons verisons manually, in advance, before posting a bug report/comment.
