TraitBuddy is an addon that tries to help you easily manage and keep track of what crafting research traits all your characters know. Great for those alt'o'holics out there just like myself.

I have expanded many game tooltips so that the information you want to see is right there on the item where you need it. There is also a custom screen if you prefer to see all the research in one place.

In case you are unsure what an alt is, it is a term to describe another/alternative character.

This addon is for Blacksmithing, Clothing, Woodworker and Jewellery traits as the other professions don't have traits you can research.

The latest version of addon library LibAddonMenu is required and will need to be installed separately.

Features

Expanded in-game tooltips:
Bag, loot, mail, buyback, trade, guild store search, guild store listings, links placed in chat, quest rewards, crafting, equipped items, and motifs
See the traits your character and your alts know
See the traits your character and your alts are researching
Automatically knows when your research has finished. You don't need to log on to your alts for it to update.
See the motifs your character and your alts know
Research overview screen
Compact movable window
Allows you to view any of your alts by simply picking them from a dropdown or using an icon bar
The screen you see will be just as if you had logged on to that alt
You choose which alts are included/compared
Customisable icon and text colours
Translated into English, French, German, Japanese and Russian
Supports gamepad mode
Ability to filter motifs, unknown, almost completed etc
List of all crafted sets with details of their bonuses and locations
Support for other addons such as Inventory Grid View and Inventory Insight
Icons in inventory
Plus a lot more...

What do the icons mean?
Green Tick
The selected character has researched that trait.

Orange Tick
At least one or more of your characters has completed researching that trait.
But not the currently selected character.

Blue Hourglass
The selected character is researching that trait.

Orange Hourglass
No characters have completed researching that trait but one or more of your characters have started to learn it.

The colours can be customised from the options.

How to set it up

Log in to each character one by one so TraitBuddy can automatically work its magic
Check out the tooltips on items with traits and motifs

There are 3 ways to open the TraitBuddy window

Bind a key
Use the buttons added to the corners of the crafting stations, skill screen and guild store
Use the chat commands /traitbuddy and /traitbuddyoptions

Use any combination you prefer.
Binding a key is done from the normal ESO options screen

Bring up the ESO Options > Controls > Keybindings and scroll down until you see "TraitBuddy Addon"
Choose a key you would like to use to show and hide the window
Personally I bind the ] key

Info for other Addon makers
Detect when mousing over a trait in TraitBuddy
In your onLoad function

Lua Code:

Then add a new function to do your custom stuff

How odd that there is not an addon like that with outfits.

I think your idea is really useful, but I have had a think about what you have suggested and I have decided not to add that into TraitBuddy.
The reason for this is that I want to keep TraitBuddy focused on crafting and as cool as the Abnur Tharn looks are there are outfits and not connected with crafting

Sorry about that, hopefully someone will build one. Or you could ask in the AddOn Search/Requests forum

I'm on PC with all DLC and the Elseweyr Pre-ordered, I also use a standard xbox controller instead of mouse and keyboard. I found this add on by chance and I greatly enjoy the older version 3.83 I greatly appreciated the text in the item window at the bottom that said this person knows this trait this can be researched by this person etc etc then I got a message saying it was out of date and needed updated so I went and updated it I tried using minion which didn't seem to work well. Whenever the game loads up I now get this error and I also do not see the lovely little research tip in the item description. What is wrong with it? How do I fix it? I am glad you like using TraitBuddy with your Gamepad.
Version 3.83 ? wow that is a very very old version, 3 years old in fact. TraitBuddy and ESO have changed huge amounts in that time.
The latest version at the moment of TraitBuddy is version 6.5.1 but there will also be a release near the end of the month for Elsweyr.

As I develop TraitBuddy I do add in code which can automatically upgrade data structures from one version to the next but I don't keep 3 years worth of fixes like that in the latest version.
Your best bet to ensure TraitBuddy is as error free as possible is to:

Uninstall TraitBuddy
Delete TraitBuddy's saved variables
Reinstall the latest version
Install the latest version of LibAddonMenu
Log on to each of your characters again

Make sure you only download TraitBuddy from here as there is another version floating around made by Mitsarugi which will break the current release.

Give that a go and please let me know if you have any issues, I am happy to help

Weolo Forum posts: 79 File comments: 563 Uploads: 4	Version 6.8 I just uploaded a small update which will be available to download shortly Labels like "Light armor" "Heavy armor" etc disappeared from the TraitBuddy screens. It turned out that ESO changed some guild store constants/strings and I had not noticed. So that's fixed now. The best improvement is when you first load onto your character TraitBuddy will now refresh the list of known traits 3 times over a small period of time, this sorts out those very rare cases where the game is not firing off events as expected on first loading in. I am very happy with this small improvement.

Edit: The icons are invisible - might need fixing Found it 5 seconds after I posted the original post The icons on the right are invisible, but if I click where they should be, it will switch between light and medium armour. Note: The invisible icons are in the same place where the icons are to switch between wooden weapons and shields in the woodworking section, or between metal weapons and heavy armour in the blacksmithing section. Hi, great addon, thanks! But I can't find the grid for leather (medium) armour! Under the "Clothing" tab I can see what I have researched in light armour, but I can't see how to find the leather armour. What am I missing? Thanks! The 2 icons on the top right of the clothing screen, for light and medium armour, are custom icons and ESO can have a "special feature" where sometimes those don't load up. What you need to do is Exit ESO Delete the ShaderCache.cooked file from \Documents\Elder Scrolls Online\live Start the game back up and it will remake that file You will then see the light and medium icons

My question though, is there a way or a setting that tells me if i have multiple items with a specific trait sitting in my bank? what i find is that i go to start a research and ill have 5-6 of one item with a specific trait and it takes up so much bank space, but i cant sort my bank inventory in such a way to easily show me duplicates. I think it would be amazing if on the tool tip along with the icon for research there was also one that showed if you had one in your inventory. Thanks!

Thanks for your comments.
There are other addons which can track items in your bag and bank.
But what I did do is add support for the Inventory Insight addon
If you have Inventory Insight installed, and you enable it in the TraitBuddy options, then you will see an extra section under tooltips like this:

Warning: It can be a bit sluggish when this is enabled.
