Votan's Improved Locations  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)
Version: 1.22.3
by: votan [More]
DependenciesDescription
On one hand, the "Locations" tab of the world-map does what it needs to do and all locations fit on screen without scrollbar.
On the other hand, it looks very bare and squeezed. Pseudo locations like "Tamriel" and "Aurbis" are mixed together with locations of all alliances, just in alphabetic order.

This add-on improves the "Locations" tab of the world-map window.
  • It adds a Most-Recent-Used list (MRU) to the top. Your currently last visited locations are the top five. (Similar to "Faster Travel", because it is an obvious useful feature )
  • The locations are grouped by alliance and your character's alliance will be the first, then Cadwell Silver, Gold.
  • Since 1.2.0 you can enable showing zone level. <= Obsolete since "One Tamriel"
  • Since 1.3.0 you can enable showing "All Alliances" zones on top (below recent list).
  • Since 1.8.0 gamepad mode support.
  • Since 2.20.0 A re-written version of "Survey the World" from manavortex, with her permission.

Alliances are indicated by the icons: Scrolls, moon and sun. The scrolls indicate your character's main alliance, the crescent moon indicates Cadwell's Silver alliance, and the sun indicates Cadwell's Gold alliance. (Which is why Coldharbour is a scroll - since you only do that for the main alliance.)
The book with a down arrow indicates DLC/Chapters. The tower is for PvP zones.
The numbers indicate story order/DLC release order.

nice! can you pls add a feature to show level of the mobs near each location?

for current hero ofc

for example AD hero will see
Malabal Tor(31-37)

will be usefull in some circumstances
or if it impossible to check hero alliance:
Malabal Tor(31-37)(4)(9)

Thanks for the mention! This looks great! It certainly improves upon the presentation of the vanilla list imo

I hope you won't mind me suggesting a tiny tweak to make your recent list grow to 5 instead of starting off with 4 extra blank spaces

Change Line 359 in BuildLocationList() to
Code:
function WORLD_MAP_LOCATIONS:BuildLocationList()

...

    for i = 1, #data.player.recent do

    ...

   end

...

end
Then check if the list has grown and rebuild if is has in UpdateSelectedMap()
Code:
function WORLD_MAP_LOCATIONS:UpdateSelectedMap()

...

if mapIndex and data.player.recent[1] ~= mapIndex then
    local recent = data.player.recent

    local count = #recent

    ...

    table.insert(recent, 1, mapIndex)

-- ensure recent table doesn't grow bigger than 5
    while #recent > 5 do
	table.remove(recent)
    end

    if count ~= #recent then
	self:BuildLocationList()
    end

  end

...

end

Of course, I don't mind.
That this placeholders do not look good at the beginning, were my first concerns, too.
The thing is, that currently there is no need to rebuild the list, only a refresh of visible, which will happen anyway. Extra code to handle the grow, which becomes obsolete once the list is filled up, was a bit too much for a first version.

But with all this warm words, I will add it.

Zone Levels

Hey there, I see you're looking for zone levels. We have this info at UESP on our page about Cadwell's Almanac, which is pretty accurate, give or take a level or two. We are in the process of verifying the values in-game with the Group Finder, which gives the level ranges per subzone.

Very nice addon thx votan! It safes me a lot of time!
I still got some requests though

LibAddonMenu integration for Settings:
1. Show LVL ON/Off
2. Sort locations by LVL (ascending/descending)
3. Let recent list grow ON/OFF

Please consider adding those, then this Addon will be perfect for me

Thanks I knew this kind of requests will come. I just did not know what's really needed and what is not.
One question: Why switch "recent list grow" on/off? Do you like the placeholders?!?

Edit 1: ^^ I guess the change log was just misleading.

Yes. It has to do with the addon load order. I didn't had this issue. Sorry!

Hopefully obsolete with the new version 1.2.0. But that version is ultra fresh. (Still steaming )

Please report, if it is working or not.

Thanks for your work on this mod!

Actually getting errors, so there maybe more than just updating the version number.
