Ak0's No Written Dialogue  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)
Version: 2.1a
by: Ak0 [More]
Notice
In version 1.1 I added a keybinding option to toggle the text, for those few NPCs that have no voice over. Set it in the controls menu, It's located under the General section, towards the bottom.

Information
I found myself reading the written dialogue text for every NPC I encountered before they finished talking. So in an effort to immerse myself a bit more, I made this simple addon. The pictures should speak for themselves.

Features
  • Hides the written dialogue text by default.
  • Key-binding for toggling the dialogue on the few occasions a NPC doesn't talk.

Bugs and Feature Requests
Please report any addon incompatibilities and bugs on my Author Portal's Bug Section and any feature requests on the Features Section. Thank you.
v2.1a -
Fixed a bug in the styling.

v2.1 -
Added support for Homestead.
Fixed the hiding when a quest gives no currencies.
Fixed the keybinding again.

v2.0b -
Fixed a issue where the keybinding did not work.

v2.0 -
Updated to current version; 2.6.
Localization added for Russia, France and Germany.

v1.3 -
The alignment of quest rewards should now look much better.

v1.2.2b -
Fixed a mistake in the folder name. Remove "-1.2.2" from the end of the folder to manually fix it.

v1.2.2 -
The body text will now show up by default if you are interacting with things like a piece of paper, a book or a dead body.

v1.2 -
Renamed the addon to "Ak0s No Written Dialogue"
Re-organized most of the code.
Perfectly aligned everything because mild OCD sucks.

v1.1b -
Fixed a small alignment issue with the quest reward info.

v1.1 -
Added keybinding to toggle text for the few NPCs that has no voice overs. Set it in the Keybindings interface.

v1.0 -

Be aware that some NPCs still have no voice-overs.

I added a keybinding option to toggle the text, should fix any problems with the few NPCs that aren't voiced.

Haven't got to try this yet cause servers down, but if it works, thanks for this.

Had the exact same issue as you as reading the text before the dialogue finished. Also, in all of the ES games, I didn't use subtitles, so ESO was strange.

Hmm, I can't get this to work. The addon is visible in the in game list but it has no effect in game and there's no options to set the keybind too. Anyone having this problem too?

That is a mistake on my end, packaged the wrong folder. Just remove "-1.2.2" from the end of the folder name so that it ends up being "Ak0sNoWrittenDialogue" and it will work

Have uploaded a fix, but will have to wait for it to be approved otherwise.

It was removed on my request, It was too similar to a controversial AddOn, so I will instead work on a more original approach to the problem, no ETA atm tho - Want to actually play the game hehe, the addon still works, so use it for the time being if you have it.

Question!

Would it be possible to add some form of visual cue in the dialogue box for when an NPC is finished speaking?

As is, I often find myself using the hotkey to see if an NPC has finished speaking before selecting a response, as sometimes they have long pauses and I find it difficult to tell.

Perhaps something like having the text block appear after the voice over has finished (if that's possible at all)?

I know what you mean, the awkward silences have definitely gotten me a few times. I will implement this if it's possible

This is an option I was surprised they didn't build into the game settings.

Thank you for creating this addon.

Question Hotkey

Thank you for this addon, its absolute great for the immersion

What I wanted to ask: I´m using the german client and the configurable hotkey doesn´t seem to work.

I can see the option for it in the controls section and change it, but whatever key I use, it makes no difference ingame. Thats a little annoying for all this muted npcs

It would be great if there is a easy solution for this

I appreciate your effort,
Salam
