The Librarium  Updated less than 3 days ago!  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)
Version: 1.63b
by: Alianym [More]
Welcome to The Librarium!

The latest update is doing a conversion of how account-wide Saved Variables are stored. This means all your writings, discovered books, etc.
If you currently use character-wide variables this shouldn't affect you (though you will still get a once-off notification on log-in). If you use account-wide, please see the change log (v1.63a).

Auran, fair wayfarer. Here is an AddOn that I've used for adding custom books to the world of Elder Scrolls Online. Please see the screenshots for an idea of what the interfaces look like, and download the latest version to see it in action.

Different zones house different books. For the purposes of this AddOn, there was originally only one book per each zone of; Auridon, Glenumbra, and Stonefalls. More have since been added, and will continue to be added. These books can be discovered on any shelf in their specific zones, and will then be available in the Librarium. You can set up a keybind for interaction (under the heading; LibCustomInteract), and either use another keybind to toggle the interface (under the heading; Alianym's Suite) or use the /librarium command.

More To Come...
The amount of texts is growing! Through my own prolific writing, and perhaps the aid of certain other individuals or communities. At any rate, I'm still looking to build it out more in the future... and now you can help! (See below)

The Editor:
Accessible via keybind within the appropriate section of the Librarium, (or using the Slash Command; /librariumwrite), is a custom editor allowing you to write (and later edit!) your own books for local viewing.

See the uploaded screenshots for ideas, or take a look in-game!

Code for the Editor was based on work done by Gigon for GGN Book2Clipboard, (used with permission).

Some Notes:
  • The first line is always the title. Everything that follows is the main text of the book. Currently a title is required.
  • Current Character-Limit is 5000. If you can't type any more, you've probably hit this limit.
  • You can change the Book Medium with a key press. Check out your text in a book, a letter, or even a sequence plaque!
Send In Your Texts:
I've recently added a new button to the Librarium which appears when you hover your cursor over a book you've written in the "Personal Writings" section of the Librarium. This button will send a copy of that book to me, along with values set up in the AddOn settings menu which include:
  • To whom to attribute the work (if it's a different @name to the one from which I receive the mail I will be curious!) This can be kept blank or just type "anonymous".
  • To list zones where you'd like your book to be found
At that point I'll look it over and see if it's suitable to be added to the Librarium for all the users to enjoy.

Some Notes:
  • I'm happy to look at non-English submissions. I might have to translate them, but I'm not going to close the door on this one
  • This is primarily for in-universe texts, but I don't want to infringe on any existing Elder Scrolls character stories, so I won't be accepting submissions of Ayrenn's personal journal or tales of your escapades with Count Verandis – not unless I add an in-universe "editor's note" to your book about how it's of dubious credibility and unverifiable. My aim is to include as many people as possible, and that's difficult when everyone is writing about how they helped Naryu Virian in Deshaan against the Llodos plague
  • No real-world discussion or commentary. This is set in the Elder Scrolls universe and ESO timeline, let’s keep it there please. (If you want to lean on the fourth wall a little feel free, just don’t take it down with a sledgehammer)

DM me with any questions or thoughts.
The comments section is the place for bugs.

Have You Seen The Latest?
Now you can save your mail into your Librarium! This currently only works for items in the Inbox, but I'm planning to expand the feature to include Sent items as well. This currently categorizes mail into Hireling, Player, and System mails.

This addition is compatible with Postmaster Mail

Settings
I introduced a settings panel where you can swap between account- and character-wide Librariums. This includes discovered books and locally-written books in addition to saved letters. There are also now options to include/exclude certain details such as in-universe date from saved letters.

v1.63b
  • Fixed an issue with the data conversion (hopefully there aren't more, if so please let me know!)
    • It won't be retroactive, but should stop those that have yet to update from coming across the issue
    • See my comment beginning with; "Hi everyone," in the Comments section for steps to manually fix the update (should be a few comments from the top)

v1.63a
  • Overhauled how data is saved. Character-wide is as before (specific to each character). Account-wide is now megaserver specific (NA/EU)
    • The next time you log in or /reloadui after applying this update your current account-wide variables will be copied to EU and NA data stores but from that point will progress individually. This will duplicate some data into both NA/EU data stores but there's no way I can tell which is supposed to belong to which megaserver retroactively. (You can probably go through afterwards and clean it up yourself if you want.)
    • I would recommend taking a back-up of your Saved Variable file before you update and log in next, but in the event you just want to trust me, I've tested it as thoroughly as I can and it works. (On Windows: "Documents\Elder Scrolls Online\live\SavedVariables\TheLibrarium.lua")
  • Fixed a typo in one of the new texts

v1.63
  • NEW BOOKS: Four new books to find! (CREDIT: Ace of Jokers, Astrande Direnni, 2x @ErkorLad – All NA Megaserver)
    • Renamed one category (Arts and Crafts -> Notes, Handbills, and Posters)
    • I have some books backlogged that I still aim to add in, but I'm prioritizing new authors in cases where I've already added multiple works by an existing author

v1.62b
  • Updated to better utilize LibAlianym

v1.62a
  • Updated description in the AddOn settings panel in-game to clarify how the new Keybind setup works (thanks for pointing this out, OneSkyGod)

v1.62
  • Reticle Updates/Improvements: Now requires LibAlianym
  • Now requires LibAddonMenu-2.0 (no longer optional)
  • New interact keybind is now set under the heading LibCustomInteract (this works contextually between The Compendium, The Librarium, and Pets and Treats)
  • Keybinds for The Librarium and The Compendium are now under the same header in CONTROLS
  • FEATURE UPDATE: Gold attachments and CODs are now stored in saved mails

v1.61
  • NEW BOOKS: Three new books to find! (CREDIT: [email protected], @Dementia5, and @TheAllegorist – All NA Megaserver)

v1.60
  • FEATURE UPDATE: Changed how books are found at shelves throughout Tamriel+
    • It's not foolproof, but you should see the same book at a shelf until you look away from the shelf, and seeing the same book across multiple shelves in a row should be less likely
    • The prompt for Librarium Books at bookshelves will now disappear if there are no new books to be found at the shelf, helping to reduce visual clutter. The books can still be re-read in the Librarium interface (Heading: READING ROOM)
  • FEATURE UPDATE: Saving a mail successfully will now play a sound every time, instead of queuing with the top-right notification. The text notification only plays once every few seconds at the fastest, which meant there could be occasional confusion as to whether or not mails saved in quick succession were actually all saved. This change should alleviate that

v1.55
  • FEATURE UPDATE: Saved letters are now sorted first alphabetically, then those with the same title are sorted by date (newest at the top)
    • Also updated the date format for EU megaserver to use dd/mm/yyyy, and keeping NA megaserver to use mm/dd/yyyy (this is retroactive)
    • I plan to add different options for sorting mail in the future
  • FEATURE UPDATE: Added a check so that if you spam the "Save Mail" key on the same mail multiple times in a row, it'll only save the once

v1.54a
  • API Update (Flames of Ambition)

v1.54
  • NEW BOOKS: Four new books to find! 2x (CREDIT: [email protected]), 2x (CREDIT: @Dementia5)

v1.53
  • NEW BOOKS: Two new books to find! (CREDIT: @Dementia5)
  • Bug Fix: Fixed an issue where Attribution and Location settings for sent-in books weren't being sent properly in some instances
  • Bug Fix: Fixed an issue where "book open" sounds weren't playing when (you guessed it) books were opened through the Librarium

v1.52.2
  • Bug Fix: Fixed an issue with a recent version that was causing significant frame rate drops when looking at bookshelves

v1.52.1
  • Bug Fix: Changed the format of how I receive texts that users send in, to accommodate longer titles

v1.52
v1.51
  • NEW BOOKS: One new book to find! (CREDIT: @OfTheEight)

v1.5.1
  • Fixed a reference issue that was resulting in a bug with sending in your custom books. You should be able to actually send them now. For reals.

v1.5
  • Choose Your Own Adventure! (CREDIT: ZOS – Smolder Scrolls)
    • Naryu Added! (Happy Heart's Day everyone!)

v1.4.3
  • Added support for French and German Elder Scrolls Calendars. If any of my translations are off, let me know and I'll fix them, quick-snap

v1.4.2
  • Changed the default variable setting to Character-Wide. This shouldn't affect current users' settings

v1.4.1
  • Added support for reading Librarium books from bookshelves in other languages
    • The books themselves are still in the language they were originally written
  • Bug Fix: Fixed a local reference being declared as global

v1.4
  • NEW FEATURE: Save your letters! There's now a new keybind displayed when you select mail in your inbox that allows you to save it to the Librarium. They're currently sorted into Hireling, Player, and System
  • Yes, I plan to add the ability to save sent letters into their own category as well. See the AddOn options for modifiable settings
  • This addition is compatible with Postmaster Mail

v1.3.2
  • Bug Fix: Stopped Librarium keybinds appearing where they oughtn't.
  • Bug Fix: Though it doesn't officially support Gamepad, at least it won't break it now. Keyboard can still be used to interact with the AddOn in Gamepad mode

v1.3.1
  • Bug Fix: Fixed a local reference being declared as global

v1.3
  • Choose Your Own Adventure! (CREDIT: ZOS – Smolder Scrolls)
    • Razum-dar Added!
  • Bug Fix: Fixed an occasional error where the reticle code would bug depending on AddOn load order

v1.26
  • NEW FEATURE: Submit books in-game via mail by pressing a Keybind which will auto-generate the appropriate mail and send it to me for review.

  • Bug Fix: Optional Dependency is now actually Optional

v1.23
  • NEW BOOK: Find it in the in-game regions of Cyrodiil and the Gold Coast (CREDIT: @TheAllegorist, NA Megaserver)
    • Trying out something with font/book combos for this book, so hopefully it doesn't break anything.
  • Bug Fix: Fixed a bug relating to incorrect book styles appearing when editing Personal Writings in some instances

3) I did a backup before updating the addon .... because

Bad news:

On the EU server, the update seems to have acted like an addon reset. Every book read, every mail saved and every thing written personally is gone.

My question now is: Can I do a simple copy and paste of the saved mail either from my backup file or from the NA side using Notepad?
Hi again,

Wrote up a whole guide, then noticed something while trying to reproduce the error.

Just tested this on my end, and I want to confirm something with you...
On EU, can you check to see if your settings got reset to Character-Wide? If so, can you toggle it back to Account-Wide and see if everything is still there?
Hi,

was pretty sure before but just double-checked to be really certain: Account settings did not reset. Account-wide was and still is activated in the profil.
Huh. Alright. Well, in that case, take a look a few posts down at my soon-to-be-un-spoilered guide!

Hi everyone,

I recently did an update to how the saved variables were stored, and this might have resulted in some unexpected issues. If you use Character-Wide variables (the current default), then you shouldn't have been affected. Also if you only play on the NA Megaserver you also shouldn't notice any issues, (let me know if you do). If you use or used Account-Wide variables and play or played on both Megaservers or the EU Megaserver, read on...

The basic premise of the update was simple. Take your current Account-Wide, Megaserver-independent, saved variables and create two copies. One Account-Wide (NA Megaserver) and one Account-Wide (EU Megaserver). This may have been incomplete, and it may have only copied to the NA Megaserver. Regardless of how it happened, the solution is the same.

If you have a back-up, that's good. Please hold onto that until you can confirm the following steps work for you. If not, well it's not needed for this process anyway. Still, might as well make one now.

(Note: Please confirm both megaservers still have the Account-Wide setting enabled. If they do and you're still missing data, then continue onwards...)

So how to manually duplicate your updated saved data to the opposite megaserver:
  1. IMPORTANT: Before you begin, you'll need to be logged out of the game when you do this.
  2. First, you'll need to find your saved variables: (On Windows: "Documents\Elder Scrolls Online\live\SavedVariables\TheLibrarium.lua") Then open it in a simple text editor (Notepad will do)
  3. Use CONTROL+F and search ["NA Megaserver"] (or ["EU Megaserver"]). Confirm which one has your data. This is what you'll need to copy+paste into the section for the opposite Megaserver

It should look something like this, but if you have a lot of data it may take some scrolling to find everything.

Warning: Spoiler

For reference, the top-level hierarchy of the file looks like this:
Warning: Spoiler

What you essentially want to do is to copy one ["?? Megaserver"] into the other. For example, if your data exists under the ["NA Megaserver"] heading, you can do this:
Warning: Spoiler

As an initial check to see if you've done copy+paste correctly, all the {} should align with each other.
Warning: Spoiler

Once you've copy+pasted to your satisfaction, the real test is to log on to the other Megaserver and see if everything shows up without errors. (So please, do take a backup before doing this process.) If you want to let me know how it goes or if any of this walkthrough doesn't make sense, let me know and I'll see what I can do.

Thanks everyone.

Oof. So close...

Yes, yes you can. I am going to write up a walkthrough and then pin it to the top in case anyone else has that issue. Thanks for letting me know. I'm also going to create a few backups of my own and then see if I can replicate this issue and fix it so people that haven't updated yet hopefully don't run in to this issue.

And I'm feeling pretty stupid because I saw that Libcustom-thingy and still didn't make the connection.

Second, yes I'm using the account-wide setting. It's my default especially for addons where I can add information since usually I want/need access to that information on more than one char.
I tried the character-wide setting but found out that it would mean losing all the mail already saved which is not an option for me.

As for my preferences ... well, for the personal writings I'm currently using the workaround of adding NA or EU to the title. Not the most elegant solution but it works.
What I would love to have is some way to separate the saved mail. I don't care if that happens by actually separating servers or by simply (?) adding two folders one for each server and the ability to sort the saved mail into them. It would be enough if the saved mail would have an added number or server short in the title when it's saved. Just some way to keep them all sorted.

Thanks for looking into this.
No worries! And we've all got other stuff going on.

Alright! Keybind sorted.
Yep, gotcha. Definitely understand not wanting to lose everything! (Which reminds me, everyone please make sure you routinely back up your Saved Variables folder!)

Good you have a temporary solution, but yes. Ideally I'd like to come up with a solution where you don't have to do workarounds. I'm still experimenting with different solutions but I think I can get Megaserver-dependent account-wide Saved Variables. What I'd aim to do would be the next time a user logs on after this update; current account-wide variables are duplicated once-off to NA/EU as a basis and then they each progress separately from there. Character-wide variables continue to act as they have. Since that would leave a redundant 'old' copy of variables in the folder taking up space, I would also like to have a way, (once the user can confirm the copy was successful), to delete the now redundant 'old account-wide' variables. Kinda thinking out loud here.

Before this I had an idea I wanted to implement "at some point" where users could create their own mail categories and/or shift mail between them. So I might just give that a bit more focus in the shorter-term. In the meantime I had an update with more books ready to go, so I just did that and next up I'll look into this!

So there's a couple things at play here, I hope I'm answering everything:
  1. Keybind For Bookshelf Interaction:
    • With the separate library I attempted to consolidate the keybinds necessary across multiple of my AddOns (there could be people that only use one of them, or people that use all of them). To that end I created a contextual keybind that handles each case. This new keybind is under the CONTROLS -> LibCustomInteract (I know, not the clearest but I tried). I did update this in the description of the AddOns individually but I understand that existing users wouldn't necessarily think to have to re-read the description for changes. In essence, the keybind moved under a new heading in the CONTROLS menu.
    • The second point to note is in another update I changed it so that once you've discovered all the books in an area, the option to read custom books from shelves stops appearing (within that area). Even with the correct keybind set, in this instance you wouldn't see another interact key prompt. I have considered making it an option though to keep finding them in the wild even after you've 'discovered' them.
  2. Cross-Megaserver Saved Writings/Mail:
I tested out this out myself, and it's a quirk of the saved variable setup I used. If you use "Character-Wide Variables" (you can set this up in the AddOn options menu) then it should all work just fine. I'm guessing you have it set to "Account-Wide Variables", which would cross the megaservers because I haven't explicitly set it not to do that. With that said; can you confirm you're using account-wide variables, (let me know if you need help to find the setting), and is it your preference to have the Librarium be account-wide, but per megaserver?

Is that intended? And if so how do I continue to read from bookshelves without a key bind?
(If not, what did I miss?)

Another issue that's come up for me since I've started using the addon on both servers (EU and NA) is that there is no way to separate the personal writings or the saved mail. Both servers save into the same space and especially with the mail there is no way to clarify which server it was saved from.
Is there any way to get a separation/differentiation between servers?

Thanks for your hard work.

Ah! Alright. Problem solved, then!

And thanks!

I believe I've fixed the conflict, along with a few added extras.

Still wondering about that second point of yours, though!
