Minion cannot connect to internet
2 Attachment(s)
Hello,
I stopped play eso during a time, and now when i try to launch minion it cannot connect to internet: "Minion is unable to connect to the internet. Please check your firewall, security & proxy settings. Please visit our Help & Support page for additional information." Can you help me please, i don't have any antiirus and i allow minion in window defender . |
Check your windows proxy settings. btw. Microsoft Defender IS your antivirus tool.
Open WIndows Firewall too and add Minion to teh Whitelist/exclusion list. YOu can find youtube videos how to do this if you search for "windows firewall allow programm" e.g. Be sure to start Minion as administrator and use the 32bit version (even if you are on a 64bit OS). |
I already did all this. I even try to turn off window defender and firewall bit nothing work. And i have not any proxy.
|
Your log file says the following after trying to connect to the minion servers:
Code:
IOException: sun.security.validator.ValidatorException: PKIX path building failed e.g. http://www.littlebigextra.com/how-to...lderexception/ Seems to have to do with a security certificate which the encryption protocoll of the https connection Minion tries to establish uses. The certificate ensures that the encryption is valid but the OS is not able to save the certificate somewhere on your disk (tried to explain what I understood). Are you sure you have started the file with administrator privilieges? If so you need to check the links if you search for the problem, there are some guys describing what to do to possibily solve this. Maybe Dolby is able to help you here as this might be related to a Minion specific certificate and the links only show descriptions for other software! Please write a PM to Dolby and ask for assistance. |
If you visit https://api.mmoui.com/v3/ in your web browser do you get any security warnings? It almost looks like something is messing with our ssl cert on your end.
|
no, nothing wrong. This website work
|
If you are going through a transparent proxy then you most likely have the certificate for that proxy in your windows certficate store.
However java doesn't use that certificate store and might not have that transparent proxy certificate. You would need to use a java test tool using the same java that minion is using to make sure it isn't a certificate issue. |

When i go on minion property, it say that "Good Game Mod LLC" does not exist. And when i try to upload it nothing happen.

no one else can help me ?
|
I had the same issue
I had the same issue, I tried all the usual suspects, reinstalling minions, deleting add-ons, reinstalling manually etc.
In the end, it is because I live in a country with paranoid internet firewalls. Once I used a VPN and then started minion, everything worked fine. So even if its not your antivirus, it could be your provider or country etc. USE A VPN when you boot minion. Worked for me |
When I run Minion I get the message:
Quote:
The url in the message for "our Help & Support" points to http://minion.mmoui.com/details.html#Help which gives page with the message that This site can't be reached. If I go to the Minion website's help page https://minion.mmoui.com/?details#Help it doesn't contain useful or helpful information for this situation. |
http://minion.mmoui.com/details.html#Help is reachable perfetlcy fine for me:
https://i.imgur.com/Qg8aZpy.png But should be actually the same as https://minion.mmoui.com/?details#Help Try the following from the Minion sticky "troubleshooting" guide (https://www.esoui.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8082), as Minion is a java application and updates of Windows or your Java Runtime Environment, or even your Internet Provider, might change the prefered connection type of IPv4 to IPv6 (type of network addresses. IPv4 is older and you might know it from websites or LAN connections, it's this 123.123.145.345 format / IPv6 is a newer standard that is providing more numbers as the amount of internet conected things and devices increased a lot so higher values then IPv4 can provide are needed): Quote:
Restart Minion then. |

Did that. Still the same.
|
Hm, I can only repeat what Dolby asked for in a post above:
Quote:
Or your Anitivurs or other tools interfere. Or you have some unwanted tools installed all of sudden which use a proxy to tunnel your network but you cannot see it with your Antiirus (which hopefully is not the case). Do you have access to a VPN? Some other user above mentioned using a VPN to change your IP address that way could unblock Minion from your ISP (if this is the case here). |
I get "Working :)" visiting that page.
I haven't installed anything nor changed anything since everything was working yesterday. Don't think my ISP has suddenly started blocking Minion. Don't have access to VPN. I'll do some tests - hopefully find solution.:p |
Exactly the same issue. May I guess - Russia?
Since we have paranoid anti-VPN measures, I wonder if this happens only here. Unfortunately, I don't have standalone VPN to check. https://api.mmoui.com/v3/ - is working even if my VPN on browser is off. EDIT: suddenly, it works again. I don't have a slight idea what was going on EDIT1: not working again. What is the address that minion tries to connect on the launch? |
Sames as www.esoui.com afaik
Check the Minion.log file it should tell you what is tried to reach there and if it fails the message says check your internet connection/proxy. I could well think of any problems by your ISP or government if you are located in Russia, yes. |
Today is everything working and no problem at all. I have no idea why. But I'm happy. :D
PS: I'm not in Russia. |
Let's hope it was a local ISP problem for you then which was solved by the ISP, and it never comes back ;)

Minion 3.0.5 and ESO Connection Issues Fixed
Quote:
When I checked my network connection, I noticed that WiFi and ethernet were connected to the internet, despite the fact that I use a hard-wired ethernet conection on my desktop so I do not need WiFi. I checked to see if Minion was working on my WiFi-connected gaming laptop and it is so the problem is not WiFi so it must be having two active network connections.
I attempted to start Minion 3.0.5 64-bit and it immediately connected to the internet and listed my currently installed ESO AddOns. I then logged into ESO, selected and loaded a character quickly without any issues. Logging into eso is much faster and I did not experience any disconnects while doing so. Minion and ESO connection issues fixed! |
Minion not works
Minion has been starting very slowly for a few hours. Download current versions fail due to message network error. The connection to the Minion website is extremely slow.
|
I have had this problem when traveling with my VPN active. Disconnecting the VPN seemed to fix it. I just reconnect after the update. Of course Minion shouldn't behave this way, but working around freeware weirdness is part of our computer lives :)
|
Well: Either you are a bot writing here, or this just sounds wrong what you write.
It's the VPN's reason than, using an IP address that maybe is blocked somewhere in Cloudflare or any other network company or node that ESOUI network is using to protect tehmselves! e.g. because anyone using the same VPN software caused issues or for whatever reason at any website in the net which was protected by the same software department that the internet and especially esoui relies on, as they were using the same IP address that you now got from that VPN. That's not Minion blocking it nor Minion's fault in behaving wrong! ;) |
This morning Minion tells me that it cannot connect to the Internet. I'm running it for ESO on Windows 11, it's the latest version, and honestly, I don't know what the cause is. This PC is about a month old now and so far this would connect just fine, every morning.
|

And obviously my internet connection is working. |
Same problem today. Just yesterday everything was working fine
|
Guessing by the "x viewing" number where I can see that this board is now being read by hundreds of instances, I think this might be a mass phenomena and might be unrelated to the computers it's running on, client-side, maybe.
|
It seems to be a java issue according to the log file, so I tried the IPv6 > IPv4 switch thing via the Windows CMD prompt from Page 1 of this thread, but it didn't fix the issue.
I'm afraid I'm not quite savvy enough to have any other ideas that haven't already been mentioned... (I checked firewall, etc.) Oh... "unable to find valid certification path..." So... the ssl certificate thing? I'll check that link regarding PKIX path on the first page... Code:
INFO 2024-03-30 03:03:25,012 [JavaFX Application Thread] gg.minion.Minion:start(43): Attempting to start Minion... |

Same issue, must be java cert or some Minion specific connection required on startup issue (e.g. some site it needs to access being down or whatever)
Same as user above, looking at minion.log after getting error unable to connect, it is really some sort of java cert error (according to the log message, no idea if that is just some placeholder message or really what it means) Minion addon worked to refresh data and dload new apps as of ~5 hours prior, e.g. yesterday Thur ~7:30pm PST. Failed to connect ~12:30am PST Friday. With 300+ ppl looking at this forum, when there are usually barely 0 to 2 ppl - would seem logical to conclude this is NOT a local computer issue (e.g. proxy connection, not white listing minion into firewall settings, the usual local PC/user error). I assume this is either as log says, an expired java cert which triggered as of today calendar date (since it connected just fine the prior calendar day), or something that triggers that error message for another server side reason. |
Same
Same situation with the same message when launching. I have years of computer experience, and this seems like something on the server side. All other programs are working, so it's not an Internet connection issue. I even tried flushing DNS settings, no change. I don't know why they don't move away from JAVA as most others have. JAVA's just a headache waiting to happen, case in point.

Having the same issue
Hi! I live in the USA. I do not use a VPN. I don't use wifi on my computer. I only use Ethernet to connect to the internet. I am on a PC. Windows 10.
I gave Minion access through my Firewall when I first installed it and just checked to make sure that hasn't changed. It still has permission via Windows Firewall. I also run Minion as Administrator. I also checked Windows Defender to be sure it hasn't all of a sudden decided to label Minion as a virus and found nothing there. I just used Minion around 10 pm CT (US) and when I just went to use it at around 2:30 am CT (US) I now get the same error "Minion is unable to connect to the Internet" as others have stated. Need help please. EDIT...I found this. Hope it helps identify the issue (What I see is a java certificate issue): WARN 2024-03-30 02:16:19,934 [Thread-8] gg.minion.util.FeedClient:run(164): IOException: sun.security.validator.ValidatorException: PKIX path building failed: sun.security.provider.certpath.SunCertPathBuilderException: unable to find valid certification path to requested target WARN 2024-03-30 02:16:19,934 [Thread-9] gg.minion.util.FeedClient:run(164): IOException: sun.security.validator.ValidatorException: PKIX path building failed: sun.security.provider.certpath.SunCertPathBuilderException: unable to find valid certification path to requested target ERROR 2024-03-30 02:16:19,935 [JavaFX Application Thread] gg.minion.controller.MinionController:<init>(148): Catching javafx.fxml.LoadException: file:/C:/Users/...../AppData/Local/Minion/app/Minion-jfx.jar!/gg/minion/fxml/Minion.fxml at javafx.fxml.FXMLLoader.constructLoadException(FXMLLoader.java:2601) at javafx.fxml.FXMLLoader.loadImpl(FXMLLoader.java:2571) at javafx.fxml.FXMLLoader.loadImpl(FXMLLoader.java:2441) at javafx.fxml.FXMLLoader.load(FXMLLoader.java:2409) at gg.minion.controller.MinionController.<init>(MinionController.java:146) at gg.minion.Minion.start(Minion.java:64) at com.sun.javafx.application.LauncherImpl.lambda$launchApplication1$162(LauncherImpl.java:863) at com.sun.javafx.application.PlatformImpl.lambda$runAndWait$175(PlatformImpl.java:326) at com.sun.javafx.application.PlatformImpl.lambda$null$173(PlatformImpl.java:295) at java.security.AccessController.doPrivileged(Native Method) at com.sun.javafx.application.PlatformImpl.lambda$runLater$174(PlatformImpl.java:294) at com.sun.glass.ui.InvokeLaterDispatcher$Future.run(InvokeLaterDispatcher.java:95) at com.sun.glass.ui.win.WinApplication._runLoop(Native Method) at com.sun.glass.ui.win.WinApplication.lambda$null$148(WinApplication.java:191) at java.lang.Thread.run(Thread.java:745) Caused by: java.lang.reflect.InvocationTargetException at sun.reflect.NativeMethodAccessorImpl.invoke0(Native Method) at sun.reflect.NativeMethodAccessorImpl.invoke(NativeMethodAccessorImpl.java:62) at sun.reflect.DelegatingMethodAccessorImpl.invoke(DelegatingMethodAccessorImpl.java:43) at java.lang.reflec*****thod.invoke(Method.java:498) at sun.reflect.misc.Trampoline.invoke(MethodUtil.java:71) at sun.reflect.GeneratedMethodAccessor1.invoke(Unknown Source) at sun.reflect.DelegatingMethodAccessorImpl.invoke(DelegatingMethodAccessorImpl.java:43) at java.lang.reflec*****thod.invoke(Method.java:498) at sun.reflect.misc.MethodUtil.invoke(MethodUtil.java:275) at javafx.fxml.FXMLLoader.loadImpl(FXMLLoader.java:2566) ... 13 more Caused by: java.lang.NullPointerException at gg.minion.controller.GamePane.hideMedRecAd(GamePane.java:109) at gg.minion.controller.MinionController.initialize(MinionController.java:161) ... 23 more |
not a firewall issue...
1. not a firewall issue, same outcome with firewall off or on
2. not a client-side issue (unless it's a programmatic problem with the client itself) 3. obviously with this many users experiencing the same issue starting at approximately the same time, it's either a windows or java update issue (happened to me when I rebooted btw) or something on the server side has changed |
Same....
I'm reassured - it hasn't been working here in Germany since today...
Yesterday I changed some drive letters - so I suspected this was the problem and tried a few things including reinstalling (also Java) etc... should have read here first.... ...or did you all change your drive letters yesterday? :D |
the java version works for me and connects fine, while the exe version doesnt connect. so yes its most likely a problem with the latest windows update.

I've installed the latest Windows update couple of days ago and Minion worked fine after that, until today

Minion get http 301 moved permanaently for api.mmoui.com and cdn.mmoui.com
Hi,
this morning here in Germany minion didn't any content from api.mmoui.com and cdn.mmoui.com so that is the reason why minion stops working for me. Sniffertrace shows HTTP/1.1 301 Moved Permanently for both api.mmoui.com and cdn.mmoui.com Without properly working web servers the windows client is useless :) Nothing to fix on the client until the servers are back or update of new destination. |
Same issues as evryone else
Morning Fellow ESO'rs. I have the same issue as bearbelly, strangedays and everyone else as of this today. Everythuing worked fine yesterday, nothing has changed overnight, apart from me sleeping and today.. Issues. I'm in the UK & don't use VPN's.
|
Same for me 0/
|
same for me too.
yesterday works fine, today i get the message with internet connection. i did not change anything on my computer. |
Same problem here. It worked fine when I ran it roughly 10 hours ago, and failed to start just now. Nothing's changed on my PC in the last 10 hours.
|
I can confirm I didn't do anything to my PC since yesterday and it is not working anymore. Same issue.
|
Same problem, Minion unable to connect, and I have tried from two different computers.
|
Same here aswell!

Yep, same issue here. Worked with ethernet cable but i need it to run on wifi and it refuses to do so. :(

same here....
maybe this is the problem -> sun.security.provider.certpath.SunCertPathBuilderException: unable to find valid certification path to requested target ---- DEBUG 2024-03-30 14:09:56,643 [JavaFX Application Thread] gg.minion.util.FeedClient:checkNetworkConnections(106): Starting network check ... same issue as well when I start minion, yesterday it was working fine..
|
same for me. i was able to get on and use it yesterday and this morning it wont connect. says unable to connect to the internet. I have followed and verified all the steps in previous comments and nothing works. I tried going to https://api.mmoui.com/v3/ and it says "Working :)". Not sure what the issue is but it seems there are a lot of people with the same issues today.

Same as others. Was working yesterday. Besides Minion everything else seems to connect fine.

Also not working for me, tried all the suggested things from the helppage .. turned firewall and security off, ran as admin, added to my firewall , un/reinstalled both 64 and 32 bit versions.

have the same issue with x32 Minion even with admin rights and disabled firewall
BUT java portable loaded from admin cmd works fine for me |
Might be because the file is so new? Virustotal is showing its fine with all the scanners here: https://www.virustotal.com/gui/file/...12dd76a4de22e1

Which operating system and minion (32 bit/64 bit) are you using? Do you use an antivirus software that could potentially block it? Did you install it over the previous version or uninstall and reinstall it? Does it work when you rename the .minion folder in your user folder where the log file is located? |
Installed the new Minion update manually (just uninstall/ install the new one) and everything is back to normal :)
