Accessing NPC Dialogue Sound File

Is it possible to access the sound file that's being played when an NPC speaks, or even some information about it (duration, etc)? I've perused the add-on wiki and can't seem to find any obvious source.

Quick answer

I love the idea. To be honest, I don't know, but you have given me a new rabbit trail to run down. There is a little information about sounds on the wiki (https://wiki.esoui.com/Sounds), but it does not cover what you want. Let me go chase this rabbit for a bit (and hope there are no squirrels). Maybe some of the addon authors who have been at this longer will know.

You can not change any of that in any way.

ShadowMau 04/19/21 04:23 PM

Hey @Sharlikran,

I know you can't change them, know of any way to manually trigger them? I have been looking, and it looks like even triggering them (ie. banker telling you about the pickpockts in Rimmon) is handled in a way that it can not be accessed. Not entirely sure why one would even want to trigger the voice, but it would be kinda cool.

Just had this weird thought of when one enters into combat with a dragon the "Dragons in your own homeland" audio clip plays. Annoying I know.

I'm not looking to change the dialogue that's being said. What I'm hoping to find is some information about it. Either audio information or even just the filename or reference associated with the particular audio file.

Okay never mind then. I gave a simple and direct answer. You can't [insert any idea no matter how you word it here] in any way in regards to this context.

Addons cannot.
But you can try to scan and extract the source code of ESO, if the .mnf files contain the audio files somewhere.
You can use this tool to extract the eso files:
https://www.esoui.com/downloads/info...okBrowser.html
https://www.esoui.com/downloads/info...tractData.html

Not sure what format they use and how you would be able to play them then.
Maybe UESP knows more about it, head over to this website and search there, as it contains info about ESOExtractData tools e.g.
https://en.uesp.net/wiki/Online_Mod:EsoExtractData

But as I have never seen any of the audio files around so far I bet they are not extractable or playable from these files.

Thanks @Baertram, this response was very helpful. I'll check out trying to access the extracted dialogue sound files. Even if I could generate a lookup table with the audio information for dialogue outside of the game and use that inside the add-on, I'd consider that a win.

And thanks @ShadowMau for taking a look into this particular problem.
