When should you delete your Saved Variables?

When should you delete your Saved Variables? or what circumstances?
Every update to the mod?
Every patch to the game?
Never?
Are the saved Variables Self Cleaning now?

id like to get an actual answer instead of the random post all telling different things that i see in various forums.

Thank you.

Never.

When addon author wants to reset your saved variables for any reason, he will just change version in the addon code.

If data for previous revisions of the game is no longer valid, it is a matter of increasing one number and the default is used instead of the stored data.
I went a step further and worked making my data resist changes of the game. I think I archieved that goal.

There is a minor case for removing the data of no longer needed/existing characters. But those won't be any relevant data sizes.
